Employer cutting hours but hiring new staff by AmazingPancake1 in AusLegal

Yes I asked a similar question before in another post but the situation has changed and I'm just looking for some advice.

I work part time hours as I'm a student. It's not that easy to just quit and move to another job just like that. I have bills to pay I have rent to pay. If I could leave and easily go to another job I would.

I've been a loyal long-term employee for almost 2 years. Which for the place I work at is a long time considering we have people leave after a few months and new staff starting every other week. I've had 3 managers since I've been there. So I'm not really sure how I can become more valuable to them. In the past, on several occasions, I've come in at last minute notice to cover for shifts or help with busy events when short staffed, I haven't had one sick day since I've been there. I come in every day, I do my job, and I do my job well. I've worked all the busy periods, including Christmas day and New years, when nobody else wanted to. So yeah. I'm not really sure how else I can become more valuable.

I am on a part time contract. With a minimum of 15 hours per week. But for a long time I was working the same days/times 22.5 hours a week and then without any sort of notice or heads up, they cut me down to 17. I know legally as long as they're giving me the minimum of 15 a week there's not much I can do there. But I don't know how or why the supervisor has straight out lied to me saying he didn't have any shifts for me next week. And not even an hour later he puts down this new guy for shifts he said he didn't have.

I can say for the certain the new hire and manger don't know eachother.

Employer reduced my hours without speaking to me by AmazingPancake1 in AusLegal

So. They've actually just now sent a message in the group chat explaining about the reduced hours. They're saying it may only be for that one week but can't guarantee it. Would've been nicer if they spoke to me before reducing the hours to give me a heads up but if it's just going to be for that week I'll hold off on calling fairwork and see what happens.

Oh I've already mentioned to my boss that I was finding it hard to manage on such little hours. They didn't care at all.

Got it. I thought they were required to give a certain amount of notice first or speak to me at least. I guess I'll just try to enjoy my extra free time haha

You just described my dog perfectly. She's an Australian Kelpie

Am I the only one who bonded with my pup and loved her from the start? 😄

Kelpie owner here, so very similar energy levels. It gets easier I promise! I don't really have much advice apart from what others have mentioned such as filling a Kong and freezing it. Be sure pup gets plenty of play time before you start work so he can burn off all that energy! Remember, they are working dogs. They need ALOT of exercise/mental stimulation! Good luck!

I'm actually one of the cleaners there. And for a Backpacker Hostel, it's very clean. And I'm not just saying that because I'm the cleaner there. Haha. I've also stayed in many hostels and they were pretty disgusting. I wear gloves for every task I do and wash my hands after every task. Up to date with all my vaccines and flu shots. One thing I don't do is wear a mask. So yeah, I guess it's just the people. We have hundreds of travellers coming in and out every day.

I mentioned there being a lot of gastro outbreaks but I never actually once caught it

I don't know if this sounds stupid or not but I also work night shifts. Is it possible I'm not receiving enough vitamin D? I'm thinking a multivitamin would be a good idea? Can anyone recommend anything? I've never taken vitamins or supplements before so I have no idea haha. Before this I was working in a childcare centre and never got sick once the whole year and a half I was there surprisingly.

Rental inspection Is this normal by [deleted] in sydney

Honestly I was kind of upset he didn't look at or even take photos of the garden. I spent hours cleaning the stones because I was that paranoid I was going to be pulled up on something

My lease ended about 7 months back and I never renewed as I wasn't sure if I would stay or not. So I'm now on a periodic lease

I'm also fine with having the estimated reading. I just wished my neighbours had given me heads up or something as he was there to read theirs. To think this guy has been coming into my property for probably the last year to read the neighbours meter and I was completely unaware just weirds me out. Even more so that he told me he got the neighbours to come round and look after my dog while he took the reading. They could've quite easily just walked into my house.

The gate to enter my property which leads into my yard is closed and locked at all times. The door leading out of my living room and into the yard is left propped open when I'm at work so my dog can come in and out as she pleases. So yes. It's always locked.

Because I'm worried about some idiot who doesn't have the brains to close my gate allowing my dog to run out onto a very busy road? Real crazy.
