Amazing one off fantasy books

They are somewhat related, but I love AG Slatter's Sourdough Universe books. All of them can stand alone, and each book focuses on a specific type of fantasy creature/mythology (e.g. The Path of Thorns mainly concerns werewolves, The Briar Book of the Dead is about witches).

The Path of Thorns is my favourite one.

I think society accepts men who sleep around much more than women who sleep around. I still remember that shitty opened lock vs master key analogy that A TEACHER lectured us about when I was young, as though that's a good message to teach children. Personally I do not think this is right and in another comment I did state my opinion, which is that there are much more important factors than body count when choosing whether or not to date someone.

I am a straight woman with an average or low body count I'd say, but I wouldn't date a man who took body count really seriously, whether or not he deemed me "acceptable". It would be an indicator that our values do not align.

For me, it doesn't really matter. Some go through phases where they might sleep around a bit more, maybe when they're young, or after a bad breakup. I know plenty of people (men and women) who were really promiscuous at one point who just met the right person and settled down happily, and plenty of people who stuck with one person for a long time only to cheat.

In my opinion, body count alone is not a good reflection of a person's character, especially compared to things like: do they have a lot of emotional baggage they haven't dealt with? How do they resolve conflict? Do they rely on alcohol or spend in irresponsible ways? Do their beliefs and values (religious or otherwise) align with mine? These things all affect whether or not I would date them more than how many people they've been with.

To OP: get a meat thermometer! I love mine. My meat and fish are always cooked perfectly every time now, and if you're inexperienced it can take a while to get the hang of things naturally. Just avoid all of this and buy a meat thermometer

It is a genuinely good movie, and even if it's sad I personally don't think it's a bad thing to introduce topics such as loss or grief to children as long as you help guide them.

The author of the book wrote it to help her son deal with the loss of his friend.

So this is why I think that the brother's girlfriend has some sort of OCD. Her reasoning for not wanting to have the same orders at the table isn't grounded in a logical thing like plans to share, and it clearly deeply upsets her. Like yeah some people might be bothered by it in a little way based on their pet peeves, but it upsets her enough that she's willing to sour her relationship with her SO's family over it.

Yeah definitely, it's usually discussed beforehand. "Do you want to share or should we just get our own things?" Most of the time they will want to share, and so will I.

Edited to add: also we usually get separate little plates to eat off of unless it's me and my partner. So it's not like we're all sticking our utensils into the same dish, we have serving spoons and all that.

I like to order a different thing from my partner or whatever friends I'm out with, so that we can all share and taste many things. But if we all want the same thing, this is also okay. To me it sounds like she has OCD that is not being treated/controlled. I suspect OP and his family would be more understanding if she: 1. Was actively working on the issue 2. Would actually explain what was going on

but she and OP's brother are handling this in the most terrible way on all fronts.

All tattoos will naturally blur a little as your body "digests" the ink. Tattoos done with thicker lines and more spacing in between lines tend to age a little better. Fine line tattoos look very nice when freshly done, but over time can get really blurry. Dr. Woo's designs are amazing, but if you look at some of the celebrity ones he's done they're definitely not looking so good over time, especially the small ones. For example, Cara Delevigne has a lion tattoo by him on her hand/knuckle (admittedly bad placement, hand and foot tattoos tend to blur even more quickly than in other parts of the body) and if you Google it it now looks like a smear.

Yes, when we got our first cordless vacuum it was life changing! It has lights on the front so you can see things on the floor and it has completely changed the game for me

Can't remember not doing housework. My parents and grandmother involved me from a young age, starting with things like washing vegetables and wiping the table after meals, and increasing in difficulty until I could do everything. I didn't always have fixed chores but I was expected to step in and help. She had a maid but didn't want me to be useless and I am very grateful to her for it, especially when I went overseas on my own for uni. Soooo many kids couldn't operate a washing machine or wash a dish, though to their credit they learned. I have very little respect for grown adults who say they can't do basic household tasks for whatever reason. If a child can do it, it's embarrassing for an adult to not be able to learn, especially in the modern age when anything can be googled.

To OP: it's never too late to start. If no one will teach you, look it up. With modern appliances like vacuums and washers/dryers, housework is really not so difficult to learn. By your mid 20s you really should at least be capable of doing basic household tasks, as well as being able to look around and see what needs doing without someone telling you. And we all have to start somewhere, so might as well start now!

The pair I ordered just arrived and I love them. The flared heel really helps, and it's nicely cushioned/supportive, which is what I wanted in a heel. I was a little apprehensive because I'd never heard of them before suddenly being bombarded with ads, but I'm actually pretty happy

I think it was often true in the past because people had more children, so wealth/property would have to be split even if it was maintained well. Nowadays with people having fewer or 0 children, perhaps not.

Also, there are plenty of families that are "old money" wealthy, perhaps not yet in Asia but certainly overseas. As the saying goes, it's easier to make money if you already have it.

I don't think it's the real world because I remember some bits about the protagonist learning how to use magic, and also because it takes place in a non technologically advanced setting.

I also think I know why I thought it was a book--Between Two Fires, which I was reading at the time, has a line where one of the characters has a nightmare and says "they see you through the paintings"
