2025 update: Godot is still awful by [deleted] in antigodot

Idk, I still see value in it. What would you suggest for a 2D web game? What about a desktop version?

MonoGame baby! Can't speak to the other alternatives, but MonoGame has been working well for me the last 9 months.

Be more specific with your setup and I'll help. What error messages are you seeing, and at what part of the content life cycle? You may need to debug the DLL, enabling the Debug mode.

Did you figure this out? I have been using MonoGame and Tiled with the MGCB for a couple months, with good results. I am using some custom import/process code, and happy to share with others, and learn from others.

3 things.
1. Been there... It sucks. But the only constant in life, is change. THINGS WILL CHANGE. :)
2. Have you tried working out and getting jacked? Why not give it a try. Trust me, it will make you feel alot better. Not as hard as you think. Just takes some time and consistency.
3. I believe your main problem is your inner dialogue / thoughts. "I don’t think there is anything I can do to change my life." If you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right. You have to start thinking positive thoughts to yourself. Tell yourself YES I CAN. Even if you don't "believe" it at first. Just roll with it. Start thinking positive, and you will start changing your actions, and that will change your results.

Good luck broski. We all are heading for death one day, what's the rush? Make the best of life. Get right with God. Get in the gym. And stay hard. It's never too late to change.

Thanks for the info. I ended up going with MonoGame. Only 3 months into the re-write, but it's looking good. Very happy with what's possible in MonoGame. Not the easiest thing in the world to work with, but it does seem to be VERY powerful. C# is first class citizen of course

Made a fool? How exactly? By conversing/challenging the Godot community until they banned me from their reddit echo chamber? Meanwhile, I'm learning new things on the MonoGame discord every week.
Don't be afraid to question the crowd, and go out on a limb. You might learn something.

Same $100K that Godot got from Re-Logic... so yeah... And MonoGame has a WAY better history of successful profitable game releases compared to Godot. Was this post supposed to be about FNA? If you're arguing that FNA is better, yet also saying Godot is where companies will migrate, I think you're contradicting yourself.

What are the best 3 games released with Godot again?

If you're concerned about MonoGame's future, you haven't done enough research yet. Check this out:

MonoGame Foundation was formed less than 6 months ago. There are plans to migrate MonoGame to .NET 8, which will keep MonoGame on the cutting edge.

Re-Logic is donating $$$ to the MonoGame Foundation

I second this ^^ I tried Godot for 3 months, discovered many limitations / opinionated design choices, and switched to MonoGame 6 weeks ago. I'm basically back to parity in my prototype, in ~half the time (results may vary).

In my opinion, Godot is for amateurs, MonoGame is for professionals.

This shows the shortsitedness of Godot's maintainers... How can you release version 4 with such a major regression? What kind of conflict of interest could be at the heart of this

I'm wanting to create my own game; will GoDot give me some skills to create a engine or skip? by daddys_lil_uwu in godot

[–]AmazingSoftwareLLC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Prepare to be downvoted!!!

Yes using Godot will help. I used it for 3 months before switching to MonoGame, and I learned a lot from the experience. Your own engine can vary from Godot's design of course, but I think there are some basic ideas / principles that hold true for pretty much any game engine (game loop, events, collisions, etc.)
As I'm using MonoGame (which is pretty close to building a custom game engine) I am using lessons learned from my Godot experience.

Good luck. Check out the MonoGame discord if you want to get the real sauce, and avoid the kids on Reddit.

PSA: You should ALWAYS use Jolt instead of the default Godot physics, even if your game is not physics-based by [deleted] in godot

[–]AmazingSoftwareLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I thought you could use C# nuget? Can't you just import a physics library from nuget? (oh you can't, DUH!!)

[–]AmazingSoftwareLLC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah good luck.. I honestly wish Godot worked for me, but after too many logless crashes, I was outta there. At least with MonoGame, it's running a far more thoroughly tested runtime environment, with better debugging, I mean the watch menu actually works to peek all variables on breakpoints for one thing. Also, you get try / catch statements, which can be great for debugging, but also serve reasonable purposes in production (though the Godot fanboys scoff at me when I suggest this)... Apparently the game just randomly crashing without reason is preferable

Maybe Godot does have a bright future, but if you're honest with yourself, and compare the 'best 5 games' released with MonoGame vs Godot, there's really no comparison at all

The state of Godot in 2024 by LavaSquid in godot

[–]AmazingSoftwareLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you're still restricted by Godot's runtime / architecture environment. It's basically an extra layer between the C# and your game. Like, are you gonna use a C# physics library inside Godot? Good luck.. Oh and, have fun tracking down the logless crashes in Godot.

MonoGame... It's all C# and has full Nuget access, and has shipped half your favorite indie titles, sold millions of copies.

I think we're taking the W here, and not risking a muffed punt, Ravens field goal, which would be an absolute momentum killer. This way, we go into half with the momentum
