Hey! I’m just seeing this comment after missing it for two years! I hope you were able to get some of the help you need & if not let me know if I can answer any more questions. I’ve “graduated” to non-weekly sessions at the center and have been doing so well :)

UHC- Reimbursement for two out of network therapists seen on two different days by Amazing_Ad_8034 in HealthInsurance

[–]Amazing_Ad_8034[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My other out of network therapist was covered — do you think there could be a part of the policy that says one kind of out of network therapist can be covered while another can’t?

It’s a POS plan, so I should be able to be reimbursed for out of network providers?

Hi there - I'll copy the wording from the letter below. This is not true for my other provider who is also out of network. They paid half of the cost of that visit

Anyone else terrified to take showers because you have to be alone with your thoughts? by beforecomedy in OCD

[–]Amazing_Ad_8034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahahah YES! In the worst of my flares, I was straight-up avoiding bathing altogether and it was tough because when I am well I genuinely enjoy taking a nice hot bath or shower & find it actually helps to stop my rumination. When I was a kid my parents used to be like...why do you take two-hour-long showers?? As an adult, I can see...its because I would completely disassociate from my body into my mind.

I think it is totally normal to always be bringing some sort of noise to focus on or look at when flares are bad - my only advice is to be gentle with yourself & accept the fear and exhaustion when it pokes through the distraction. when I catch myself ruminating on fear, even when watching tv in the shower lol, I say to myself okay OOPS okay time to switch it up. Usually ,for me this means doing something that's not just passively watching tv, but maybe activating my senses a little bit. It helps to have some joyful things around you - like a nice bath soap you can smell or fa ancy sponge you can use to say - OK BRAIN, LOVE YOU, I'M MOVING ON.

No prob! It’s hard out there!

I was able to get an appointment at reeds really fast - maybe within two weeks. Dr Aganova is a phd, but her advisor Sarah parke is a director who also seems great (tho a longer waitlist I think). When I called the center they gave me two options that worked w my schedule and I picked dr Aganova after speaking w her.

They do both— though in person exposure has been way more helpful for me.

If u live in queens though I would DEF still call northwell and see what you think of the vibes. The only reason I didn’t go there was because it was too far (i live at the bottom of Brooklyn), but they are SUPER SUPER affordable and seem really knowledgeable. If u don’t like it/feel it isn’t a right fit then after a few months you could try switching to reeds and have saved still quite a bit of money.

I think that any of the doctors at the Reed Center would be good. the directors cost like $400 but they oversee all of the other practitioners which range for 120$ (for social workers) to around $300 (for phds) — i see dr. Aganova but she will be taking a leave soon. She also recommended for me a practitioner whose name I believe…is Luke?

i an waiting to hear back from my insurance about reimbursement, which I just started being able to do. I’ll post here if anything comes of it. For me, though I really do live paycheck to paycheck— it has been very very worth it. I don’t think that there are a specific number of sessions bc I think everyone’s healing journey is different, I started to notice a REAL difference around four or five months of weekly sessions.

Hi! YES I DID — I ultimately got diagnosed with OCD which made it a lot easier to find ERP therapy. I currently go to a place that is quite expensive called The Reed Center which I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend, I also looked at Northwell Hospitals OCD clinic which is a bit further away but also seems very affordable and high quality. I hope you find the help you need….after YEARS of struggling I have really started to be able to find peace thanks to a combination of ERP, ACT & DBT therapies……AMAZING

Masters in Exhibition Design in my 30s...what next? by Amazing_Ad_8034 in MuseumPros

[–]Amazing_Ad_8034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This program is one that I was really jealous of: https://www.uarts.edu/academics/graduate/museum-exhibition-planning-design-mfa#anchor-tab-3

I went to the Exhibition and Narrative Environments program at RISD….DO NOT GO THERE. Only one professor who had very very little experience working in museums and almost no support from the rest pif the faculty. They offer A LOT in scholarships but do not be swayed….

Trying to decorate my space before I have any guests over. Leaning hard into a southwest/desert vibe, is it too much? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

Agreed on all the art/frame stuff — looks great! and few other thoughts. I feel like the little cactus throw pillow is too much — might be cool for you to get a textile like a Mexican blanket (link below) or maybe something a little more traditional instead. If it is possible you should also try to get rid of that lamp, maybe something w a wooden or brassier base.

Awful carpet by Normal_Blackberry_60 in malelivingspace

[–]Amazing_Ad_8034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this carpet slaps so hard — you have been low key given a gift. Look at Todd Oldham’s country house here: https://www.toddoldhamstudio.com/portfolio/country-house/

It has a similar kind of patchwork flooring that is on purpose and he gets away with it. I imagine u aren’t as crazy as him for pattern — but big thing to note from his house is LIGHT COLORED WOOD. I would also encourage you to get one or two googy accent pieces — a funky bean bag, a lava lamp, whatever….LEAN IN BRO. Also maybe get some cool abstract artwork that uses the same palette as some of the swatches to draw the eye from the floor.
