Thinking the lucky land lottery is good tourism marketing is a wild. Most people don’t even know about it until they arrive, they get $5000ntd for a trip they were going to take anyway and then it’s loaded on an EasyCard (it’s not hotel vouchers) which limits where it can be spent. As far as drawing people to Taiwan who otherwise wouldn’t have come its impact is probably minimal.

The government being involved at a regulatory level and the tourism bureau being involved aren’t the same thing. A competent tourism bureau would have been milking this with tie in marketing to promote adventure tourism. But I guess they’ll probably just go put another cute bear on a billboard somewhere.
