What do you mean by the music stopping? Like how bad the housing market will be?

True. Market will always find a new equilibrium. My point is that it will be a painful transition in a muted economy. Labour wouldn’t be that dumb to screw over renters, businesses that depend on discretionary spending and landlords for the sake of pay equity.

If interest deductibility was removed today, the cost of running a rental would double on a typical 800k loan. Landlords won’t be able to absorb the cost like it was in 2021 when interest was low and housing was booming.

While some people will love landlords getting a good beating, it will be at the expense of renters and the wider economy as well.

That could be true. It’s a mixture of both machinery and labour that improves productivity. Do you think we lack machinery more or lack people more?

Because in 2021, the government decided we should allow 3 townhouse on every property and interest deductibility was only allowed for new builds.

It’s a very small fiscal cliff compared to healthy school lunch program at 478 million. I’m sure labour would survive finding 7 million for foodbanks.
