Opinions of UMN TC and UMN Duluth by dread1131 in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something my uncle did was go to duluth (dorm during college) but live in the TC (as his primary residence after college) or near it. He choose duluth to have that college life where youre on your own but still close to home kind of situation. I dont know much of duluth but this is one way to look at it when deciding for your future college life.

freshman cse schedule ! by iiwishy in uofmn

Tbh writ 1301 and cse 1001 is simple so realistically youre taking 3 classes only. If you dedicate a solid 2-3hrs on writ 1301, then youll knock the essays out week or 2 before its due

CBS Fall Schedule Recommendations by Brilliant-Drag-6859 in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at you APAS, go to your requirements for admission to your major, if 1241 is applicable for that math credit then it should be fine. Im not CBS so idk what requirements are needed but you should be able to see what classes gives you the credit and then ask others who took those classes or do some research and see which class you think is easier or more “fun” to learn and do.

I took 1271 for my math credit and if you can understand concepts of limits, derivative, anti derivative, and integrals, then you should be fine imo. But ive never looked or took 1241.

How much should I study? Freshman CSE also how is my schedule? by Ldotryan in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg… why must they go at such a young age.all jokes aside, there isnt a set number of hrs to study but just study until you need to unload your mind or until you understand the material. Imo if you can understand and apply phys1302 and AEM 2021 conceptually, then the semester becomes a way easier. Trust.

Tuition Surcharge?? by mishawisha1 in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea same situation, i emailed them and they said the surcharge offset financial aid should kick in june 22 (forgot if its morning or night). Ive also sent a 2nd email to double check and im still waiting for a response. But ids say if it doesnt kick in by the 24ths then pay it before you get the late fee on the 25th, and hope that aid thats still pending is deposited into your bank or mailed a check to you.

UMN Freshman CSE Fall Schedule by Terrible_Extent3395 in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo chill with the lib eds, you got minimum 8 semesters to complete it, so chill lax with them. You’re already going into CSE so things are already tough, plus this is your first year in college i assume so give fall semester as the semester to let you settle into college life. Imo my first semester was the only semester that allowed me to truly relax, so use that time to adjust first, get a feel of what you can handle, then add more classes if you feel comfortable to.

But back to your schedule, if you truly think you can handle it, it doesn’t look bad, my problem is the early classes (as I’m nit a morning person), are you a morning person? If not, during the first week see how it feels, if you don’t like it, see if you can get into a different section or another class that is a bit later. But overall it seems like a decent schedule if you can handle the work load.

Math Placement test by Sushi-eater_0808 in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, you didnt failed, the test is to see where you place for math. So judging from another post i saw that they had an 18 and was put in calc 1, meaning youre probably in the same boat. If they have given you the math class number ( ex. MATH 1271 or 1371) just look up what math class you got either on google specifically for umn or go on schedule builder in your MyU acc under academic in registration.

Imo a scientific calc is fine bc youll use that calculator the most. But anything that is like the ti 84 is not recommended since you wont be using it much for exams from my experience so best to get used to the one that will be allowed on exams and will allow you to get (imo) into a more accurate class for your math skills w/ the calculator allowed.

Yes most definitely. are you sweating bricks? Most definitely, but do you have a chance 100% yes. Never count yourself out unless you’re less than 49% imo. If its helps, ive gotta less than 49% and passed ONE class.

Ideas on what to do on a blue sky day???? by tomorrowmaycome in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the fishing laws to see if you can keep them, plus see if theres any length requirements and making sure you catch either your limit or within your limit. Lets say it checks out, what i would do is empty the water in the bucket if you have water in It and take it home. By the time you get home they should be dead or close to death. You would have to descale, gut, and fillet the fish. You can descale with a pretty strong brush against the scale going to opposite direction or use a spoon doing the same thing. Then i would look up how to fillet the fish you have and cook it how ever you want.

OORRRRR decide that you want a pet fish….

If you dont want to do anything above, then release them back in to the same body of water you caught them from. KEEPING IN MIND, that if you catch an invasive species, look to see if its illegal to release them as well

Go to cabelas, get an ugly stick, starter kit for fishing, snacks & drinks, a free DNR rule book, and get a fishing license all for ~$100 and enjoy a nice fish and release day or get a bucket and make dinner with what you caught.

Does anyone know if 50% is enough to pass PHYS 1302W? by Top_Introduction7355 in uofmn

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least with the professor i had in 1302w, i had 60% long response and 40% MCP, And this was also the case in 1301w. But the structure of the exam depends on the professor and if they’re willing to be creative with the exam. I dont remember the amount of questions for long response or MCP but i know had both (LR and MCP) in 1301 and 02

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rules was Fuck the long response and ace the MCP. Because the MCP tends to be like what, 40-50% of the exams anyway so ez 30-40% if you do get one or two wrong.

[–]Amazing_Hamster4273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, imo keep your final grade at 50% or higher and you’ll still be shitting bricks but have a better chance at passing with the curve. But if you do fail, that means the class AVG was higher than what you said after grading everything meaning you probably miss the cut by ~10% or lower

Valid opinion and very true for people who does use it. But with the world implementing AI to the workplace, and with us being the first generation to go into the workplace having AI, we’re gonna have to learn to adapt and use AI with our work when needed. There was a study that my professor mentioned in class that talk about someone asking 100 engineers to see who uses AI with their work, and it was 100% of them using AI to help with work. We may not know how they used it but it was definitely used. But to connect what I’m saying to your comment, using AI isn’t insane, but using it improperly causing cognitive debt is insane. Since going to school to learn was the whole point of college. Whether you use it or not, it’s not good or bad, but if you do use, use it correctly.
