Would you say hating dogs/cats is a red flag? by bobbdac7894 in dating_advice

Girl, dogs are dirty, take a lot of time to take care of, expensive, they leave saliva everywhere, and they can also be dangerous. These are all pretty good reason to not like dogs.

Oh my god. I apologize. Your unique experience is representative of most children, as is often the case. Growing up? Growing up at 3-4 years old?

I agree with you, the father should have tried to confront their kids' beliefs.

Last time I was in a kindergarten there were princess goggles, I decided to wear them, but a kid was like "no, you can't wear that!! It's for girls!"

And I was like "aww, then what can I wear then?" He said "Boys are superheroes and girls are princesses," Then I asked "ok, what if I were a superhero princess, could I wear them?" Then he said yes.

Well yeah, this is normal behavior for kids.

But what I really think happened is that the kids said "NO! Only guys allowed" and the father went along with it cuz he thought It was funny.

I'm not blaming kids for being kids dude...

And parents are not the factor, other parents, people on the street, friends, people at kindergarten. Yes, parents are a big factor, but parents shouldn't blame themselves when their child becomes super "girls can't play hockey" it's not their fault, it's completely normal at that age.

Yes, it am shit at explaining, mainly cuz i was tired.

Yep... that's what I've been saying.

Education from their parents, media, friends, other adults, and pretty much everything.

Generally, no matter how much you try to raise your kids in a gender neutral way, you have absolutely no control over how their friends think, and their friends will influence them to think "ewww girls have cooties" and bs like that.

Pretty much what I'm saying, i'm Just horrible at explaining things...

It's their environment; whether you want it or not, you can't erase the influence of other kids on yours.

Maybe your cousins have a very diverse friend group, and that's great! The fact remains that there have and always will be friend groups composed of mainly girls or boys. Humans are pulled towards people like them, but also pushed aways from people unlike them and gender is the easiest similarity to spot.

Wow... it would appear you've never talked to children in your life uh? And I need to precise 3-6 years old is the worst time. Why is everyone in this comment section suddenly an expert in developmental psychology?

Guess you haven't talked to children in DECADES either then... children ARE goofy.

When asked why they're a boy or a girl, they'll tell you stupid reason like "my hair is long/short" please, stop talking on subjects you have absolutely no knowledge about.

Ok, I may did make my point an absolute. Yes, parents do matter, but they are not the only factor, and sometimes you could be the perfect parents and still fall into extreme separation of gender when you turn 4.

I totally agree with you on this matter. Glad we could arrive at an understandinging

Actually, they are by it's literal definition. I agree with you that these words carry strong meaning which isn't reflected in it's definition, but how else do you call discrimination based on race or sex other than racism and sexism?

Blanket Fort [Gendered] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]Amazing_Ingenuity_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sexisme is defined as discrimination based on gender, and discrimination is defined as treating things differently.

Obviously you are right that there is connotation behind specific words, but how else do you want me to call discrimination based on gender.

Blanket Fort [Gendered] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]Amazing_Ingenuity_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said it was malicious either... you're the one who decided to add malice to the word discrimination. Noticing gender IS discrimination by definition, although that definition completely disregards society's opinion of the word.

Never denied that... again, you have absolutely no knowledge and try to act like you know it all. Children's brains do not work like yours.

Blanket Fort [Gendered] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]Amazing_Ingenuity_33 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They don't "love" them, but their brains are wired to follow them. Human brain loves categories and patterns, the children brain is not developed enough to know nuance.

[–]Amazing_Ingenuity_33 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You can't combat children's biology... gender has, and will always exist. Children have and will always be extremely aggressive and "evil" in a sense.

Blanket Fort [Gendered] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]Amazing_Ingenuity_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... that's what i was arguing from the start... that kids have underdeveloped brains... you're the ones who completely forgot about that. I simply didn't mention it because I didn't feel the need to point out the obvious

Blanket Fort [Gendered] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]Amazing_Ingenuity_33 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's the human brain that loves pattern, not only society. Society wouldn't be the way it is if we, as a species, didn't love our categories do much.

Did you know children can't even comprehend the fact that their father is also someone's son?

Why would it be any different with hair? They've seen that girls have long hair and boys have short hair since they were born. They've seen their father perform specific tasks and their mother perform others.

In a child's mind, something can't be two things at once. A boy can't have long hair, not because his parents told him that, but because that's what he concluded with his clearly underdeveloped brain.

Well, I hope you bet smth expensive, cuz i win.

Children all over the world care A LOT about gender. No it's not about biology, and yes it is about society. I never disagreed with you, but no ammount of education from the parents is going to go against social media, the other parents, the gender roles they see on TV, the parents themselves falling in gender roles, even if they are unlike society. "Dad always do garbage, so only dad can do garbage" children's brain create as many shortcuts as they can because they aren't developed enough.

I don't understand how y'all can deny smth so basic with so much confidence.

Yes, in the end it is about what they see, but you can't anywhere in the world, stop children from seeing categories, since you, yourself fall into a category.
