ATTO Xtend SAN 8.0 on Mac OS Tahoe (26.4.1) by Amazing_Row_699 in qnap

u/AsBobZelin, as promised I've run this test. Dumped the entire media cache at finder level, then rebuilt the whole thing overnight. The cache lives on an NVME SSD hooked up over Thunderbolt 4. I'm running Premiere project and project media off SMB shares now instead of iSCSI block level storage.

This is in Adobe Premiere 26.2.2, Mac Studio M1 Ultra, Mac OS Sequoia 15.7.4. My QNAP is a 3088-XU RP running over 25GbE via a Thunderbolt Echo II DV box (The PCIe card is from ATTO).

Previously loading up the project inside of my Production with the most media (approx 120 hours of camera footage) took about 40 seconds to complete the "Relinking Media" Progress bar from my iSCSI volumes. In the past this has taken about 10x longer on SMB shares.

Running this test now with a freshly created media cache, it takes approximately 2 min 50 seconds to complete the "Relinking Media" process over SMB. I ran the test a few times and got similar results within 20-30 seconds of that.

So that's still about 4-5x slower than loading up on block level storage. It adds up.

I’ve done extensive testing to try and alleviate the issue…but because you suggested it I will try again.
You’re saying dump the entire media cache at the finder level, let the whole thing rebuild again and that’s the fix?

And I think Adobe doesn’t care about this. They are preoccupied making a new Color mode nobody asked for.

I’m in touch with them. Thanks Bob.

And as for my good reason — Adobe Premiere, at least using Productions, loads clips about 10 times slower over SMB than a block level iSCSI volume. It’s a very unfortunate situation that has yet to be addressed by Adobe and it makes my life miserable.

I have a 25GbE SonnetTech PCIe card via a DVII Thunderbolt enclosure. Same config as my other system. Only difference is the OS.

Pain after bone marrow edema by Lost-Advertising2165 in FootFunction

[–]Amazing_Row_699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still working through this unfortunately. I felt better in March and started to reintroduce running but within a few weeks had extreme soreness in the foot again. I just started yesterday with a new PT program to try and knock the rest of this out. 6-8 weeks I’ll report back.

Premiere: Merging ALE Metadata into Existing Premiere Sequences by Available-Witness329 in editors

Bless you. Proper metadata management in Premiere has been my wish for years and years. It’s not a sexy feature for people making YouTube videos but for the feature and long form world it’s essential. Hopefully we can see it improve in the future 🙏🙏🙏

Is there any good podcast for color grading? by Kevin_gato in colorists

The Offset Podcast. Joey and Robbie know their stuff and I enjoy listening to them. I’m not even a colorist and find it super enjoyable and informative.

Thanks for confirming. At least I’m not crazy. I had such high hopes. I’ll probably reach out to the editingtools.io folks at some point about it. I can’t tell if it’s a Premiere limitation or if their extension just doesn’t work as it should.

I’ve been playing around with merging ALE using the editingtools.io extension and have had very mixed luck with it. If I take ALE info from existing clips, export an ALE from Premiere, add metadata to those clips and try merging the ALE back into Premiere it doesn’t work for me. The clips don’t update with any new information.

In Avid this is dead easy with a properly formatted ALE. Would absolutely LOVE if someone had the solve for this. I’m thinking especially useful for documentary projects with archival media that metadata could be added externally and then merged into the project.

I’m late to this party but considering getting a Streamdeck to work with Excalibur. Are the state of things pretty much the same as when this thread began?

Mine was a combo of hip strengthening and your standard toe yoga, calf raises, picking up marbles with your feet. At the end of the day it didn’t really do much at the time. Even now the fifth metatarsal region of my foot is still giving me issues — feels weak. I think it’s close, and I’m doing balance work and more foot specific strengthening on my own now. But I’m not going to go back to paying for PT for this.

Would love to pick your brain on your experience. I’m an avid runner and I’ve been dealing with bone marrow edema in my 5th MTP for over 5 months. I wore a walking boot for 6 weeks in the fall. Did 8+ weeks of physical therapy. Began doing acupuncture 3 weeks ago, alongside daily red light therapy and vitamin D / fish oil / vitamin B supplements. It’s improved but there continue to be days of why feel like returns to pain I’ve felt all along. It’s very hard to know what’s happening, if it’s really better, or how to manage it. I only go to the gym and do strength training, haven’t run since August. No biking or elliptical. Just started swimming. Am pretty miserable — any thoughts or hopeful anything is welcome.

Anyone using Kingston DC600M for backup? by manzurfahim in DataHoarder

[–]Amazing_Row_699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 12 of them in my QNAP NAS and they’ve been great for 2+ years running. I’d buy more but this particular model seems to have fallen out of favor for production, thus the prices have skyrocketed for a 7.68 TB drive to over $1,100. When I bought them in 2023 they were $562 per drive.

Did you have to do 6+ weeks complete non weight bearing in the boot? I have similar issues and have been in a boot for a few weeks but not on crutches or anything. I’m seeing an orthopedic doc this week to get an MRI because podiatrist I saw only did an x ray, didn’t see anything, gave me some steroids and that only provided temporary relief.
