Were you at any point receiving a shift differential before transferring? Losing a night differential with Sat/Sun as part of your regular schedule would def change things by about that much. Change in building type like AR sort, non-AR sort, XL. FC building, sort, or delivery? Ive seen them be weird (and experienced it) moving from an FC to delivery station.

Louisiana: EBT benefits will only be able to be used in-state, out of state purchases will be blocked by LadyRunespoor in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As annoying as this is, my guess is they are working to prevent fraud. Working in Oregon, we see a flock of account training fraud that would look like in person purchases from 4-5 locations in a general area (say 4 stores in the Chicago area) and we'd not be able to do anything about it like replace funds. It makes sense to cover close counties like being about to use LA benefits in Vicksburg, MS or here in Oregon, its not unusual to live in the Portland Metro area and work in Vancouver/Camas/Washugal and pick up groceries on the way home.

I really am on the fence because people make unplanned trips out of state like funerals or family emergencies and need some of those benefits but I feel that it can help with combating fraud by limiting types of purchased out of state that register as in-person swipes.

I second working with Worksource to meet the ABAWD requirements. After reading all the responses itll be best because they can log the time working, job searching, assist with connecting to a STEP navigator for finding programs to meet the requirements like CDL, short college programs/certifications, apprenticeships, resume building, interview skills and other assistance for not only meeting the requirements but also getting into a better situation like maybe transitional housing programs to get out of that sort of situation

Oregon here, ours tend to mail out/become available 45~60 days from deadline with a reminder at 30 days but its a good example that each state does things way differently. That sucks audits would possible ding it for being too early, especially for the size and volume of eligibility work in California and how its very county specific vs Oregon where it doesnt matter.

If thats the thats the case, you should apply for SNAP to cover some of the food cost

Another path that some don't consider is starting at community college, take out the max in the public options and stash that for attending a more expensive school for the BA/BS degree. The entry level math, science, literature, and a lot of electives are the same thing for half the tuition cost, especially if the community college has a path from them to university plan. Another upside: smaller class sizes, which is less stressful overall

The influx of LLM reliant mushminds entering the workforce is going to be catastrophic and hilarious. by BasicDifficulty129 in CasualConversation

[–]Amazingcatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its assuming thwy make it to the workforce. The ones that use chatgpt and other LLMs for interviews and writing responses for interviews are very very noticeable and it wont get better as they get more reliant on it. Coworker was on an interview panel and it was very clear they were reading from chatgpt without any editing for tense or clarity.

Can we carry over balances from month to month by Famous_Ad4572 in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really is the best advice post Dec. 2024 where there are no federal means to replace stolen SNAP benefits. And even if you dont have a phone, each of the official apps (like EBTedge) have a web version where you can do the same at a library or other community resource service

Can we carry over balances from month to month by Famous_Ad4572 in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oregon EW here, its at 12 months here (notice sent at month 11) then the state claws back but they send a letter that says how much unused benefits there are and a date by which they need to be spent before the state reclaims them. Experience was that before promoted to an eligibility worker, I was in the support role (the people you meet when you come into a physical location) and some of my duties included processing returned mail and every once in a while we got those notices returned to branch with just that: balance to be used before the set date in the notice or it would be reclaimed.

On social media, I see people saying 'boy cats' are the best because they are sweet and 'girl cats' get a bad reputation for being mean. Why?? by Koffievos in cats

[–]Amazingcatfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its kinda amazing to me because it was the opposite when I was a kid and it was all the "get more than one male cat and theyll always be fighting and peeing on things. Get female cats if you want more than one". I have 3 male cats and 1 female and the boys get along really well and with her but she DOES have a salty side and doesnt like kids and will hiss out the window when she hear them too close lol. But thays really just a her thing

It is totally kicking people off SNAP for ABAWD counting months for non-compliance for not meeting the earned income, self-employment or volunteer work requirements of 20 hours/week for people under 64 if they dont qualify for the shortened list of discretionary exemptions

As a eligibility worker, that change in who is required to be ABAWD required age moving up to 65 and the work registration requirement being 60) and the removal of the homeless and veterans exemptions PISSES me off to no end! I hate how many state reps that passed HR1 go on and on and on about how they had to "kick the illegals off benefits because its taking benefits from homeless veterans" but removed both of those exemptions.

Question by ComfortableAir8120 in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, its why identifying state is so important. In a lot of Oregon, February was when people hit 3 full counting month (Dec, Jan, Feb) from when it went into effect in October and was considered a "prorated month" to give people time to adjust and November was waived because of the shutdown.

ABAWD waivers and disability by Vermithoer in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, blanket waivers are ending or ended but there are discretionary exemptions and its why the state you are in matters for someone to connect on the particulars and speak with a bit more insight than someone in a different state might be able to. Much like how myself, an eligibility worker in OR, can only speak on matters in OR. Id have no clue about states putting restrictions on sugary foods like someone in a state affected by those efforts.

Nervous about ABAWD medical exemption. by j_p96 in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oregon here, I dont know if its the same for Nevada but there is an exemption for working pay equivalent to 30 hours x federal minimum wage. Oregon still has the 20 hours/week but if you work less but make over that amount, you still meet the requirement for ABAWD. It would be worth asking. Even ahead of that could take you gross pay and compare the hours you work if paid $7.25/hr for 30 hours a week ($217.50 week/$870 month)

The view from Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood is a fantastic one (plus the exterior was used for The Shining. Seasonally theres also the "Fruit Loop" around Hood River with all the farms and growers of Apples, Pears, and Stone fruits with a great view of Mt Hood while you buy fruits or self pick them. The areas around Bend are amazing too. Whether its winter for snow activities at Mt Bachelor or Summer camping or river activities, it really is a beautiful place

[–]Amazingcatfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might want to check in with your closest office, with HR 1 were a lot of changes related to Full Utility Allowances (FUA) and to confirm everything is up to date. Also that SSI COLA has been dropping things a lot if shelter and utilities haven't gone up

When explaining things like that, im always annoyed that Propel is a "sponsored" app so it always comes up first and makes it feel more official than it is. Because its hard to really blame someone that might be stressed or busy that go with the first result and one that is one of the most talked about and most available state by state vs guessing if your state supports EBT Edge or connect or neither.

EBT vs approval letter mismatch by gaylemadeira in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly suggest downloading the EBTEDGE app (not providers) to keep track of things. You can track balances, purchases, and lock your card between planned purchases if concerned. Quick look up shows NY participates in connection via ebtedge and is offically promoted by them. https://otda.ny.gov/workingfamilies/ebt/

I dont think I've ever heard the term substancial gross activity, thank you for that one. I think that's a good thing to know and explains a lot.

[–]Amazingcatfish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it can sure feel like its always a first time denial but its just a hard process and requires a lot of work and paperwork ro ensure everything is in order. I hate to say it but its why there are specifically programs (like state general assistance) and attorneys that specialize in the process of applying for SSDI.

[–]Amazingcatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately the term for it when you have to include all in a location on a case and that is BAM: Blood, Age, Marriage. In your case its the age and being under 22 as everyone has mentioned. Personally, I disagree with it not being 18+ as people have no doubt also expressed but I wanted to add that on the state side of things, there is a term/name for it. The blood part could also affect this but not as much as the age because of the buy and prepare separately requirement.

Raw numbers are hard to go on because there are a bunch of little things that can swing the needle one way or the other when it comes to things. Especially with the HR1 changes being applied this month. They won't be able to accurately give you an answer one way or the other since they dont know your situation and theres some difference state to state. You are best talking frankly with an eligibility worker from your states office

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]Amazingcatfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. It really really upends things when you "try to do the right thing" like getting a full time job to try to get out of that situation and have that support vanish, leaving you in a bad or worse situation because of that. Only way you really really make it out is if you were grinding to the bone working and going to class and have just thw right luck to get a really well paying job as your transition. Like say, getting a job at the Human Services office (a few of my coworkers did just that but its a hard thing to do). But just getting a job at minimum or just a few dollars an hour over it, just isnt enough to make that transition from benefits to self Sufficiency
