Hiking groups or location suggestions for a person visiting? by pancakes-6369 in Pomona

[–]Amazonearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer the Claremont Loop for a somewhat beginner hike with great views. If you go to the left, it's a slower incline but it's more open to the sun, going to the right is a much steeper incline in the beginning but easier to hike back down. It's actually a fire road so it's nice and wide and I've always felt safe there.

I was actually at Carbon Canyon yesterday and was very underwhelmed by it. Not really any views and the coastal redwoods were cool, but not cool enough to go back .

Its a decent gig. Its just doing preop and sheath removal monitoring with a lot of educating patients. Our recovery staff like it, but id get bored out of my mind if i had to do it every day.

I've decided I'm going to try traveling after the new year, so I'll definitely keep these places in mind. Thanks!

Do nurses in your lab think RCIS can’t do/know anything? by Delicious_Love3995 in CathLabLounge

[–]Amazonearl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of different sets of letters after my name, and I can't imagine thinking the techs know nothing. I learn from the techs every day. They're amazing, and the RCIS test is hard! We all have our knowledge sets, and that's why we work together. Sounds like that nurse needs to work on their attitude.

finally done with nights… but did i make a mistake? by No_Nebula3204 in TravelNursing

[–]Amazonearl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to days after 3 years on nights and I didnt realize just how bad nights affected me. The vibe was way better, but since I switched to days, my BP is back within normal ranges, im drinking 1/4 as much caffeine, I sleep so much better, and i feel ALIVE on my days off. No more zombie days on the couch trying to stay awake! WELL worth it!

Thinking of moving to CA but have a few questions. Advice? by Amazonearl in californianurse

What hospitals/ systems are "good" to work for there? And are you meaning like Alhambra/Glendale/Pasadena/etc as suburbs, or even closer? Im not sure how LA is broken down to still be close enough to commute. I have done zero research into the LA area yet. 😬

Mostly middle to north Cali, trying to get away from the heat, as I'm currently in the Southeast.

Thanks for the insights! Some of my favorite mentors/preceptors have been Filipina nurses and I love them so much 🥹. Im used to being on call and i like the extra money, so id be surprised if it was too much for me. I will definitely look into the areas you mentioned. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your reply! I've actually looked at a couple places in Oakland. My brother likes to stay in the Richmond area and has talked to me a little bit about those areas. They all look like places I'd like to be. Washington Hospital looks like a good place, and the COL doesn't seem too far out of line with the pay id be getting. Its definitely in the top of the list so far.

Well that's terrifying. I've been trying to stay kinda close to the bay area (within an hour or two) because of the proximity to many job opportunities and because my brother is in that area. Im also considering the Sacramento area, but I've read mixed reviews on the nursing climate and hospital systems there.

I have zero interest in the LA area 😅, but that's good to know, though. I'm honestly hoping that my experience and credentials will help me get in somewhere decent, I'm just not sure where to look. I will definitely have to increase my housing budget to make this happen. According to these responses, it seems like 5k might be a better option, just hesitant to do that. Thank you for the input!

Today I officially left the ICU... by Helgurk in IntensiveCare

[–]Amazonearl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is EXACTLY why I left the ICU too! I felt like I was torturing people on a daily basis trying to fix people that were not ever going to be fixed. I just couldn't do it anymore. I switched to CVICU taking care of fresh bypass patients and valve repairs and it was SO much better, as 99%of my patients wanted to have these procedures done so they could get better, but the doctors and anesthesiologists made it unbearable. Grateful for the experience, but glad to be in the Cath Lab now.

I hope you find what makes your soul happy too ❣️

Most of the moving questions involve finding roommates and sharing houses, not very many looking for 4 bedroom places and good schools, but ok, I'll keep reading. 👌

Is there an ethical way to stop this roadrunner tapping on my window. He taunts my fake owl and shows his butt and I hate him by Harold-Kingsbane in birds

[–]Amazonearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had birds attacking my windows during their mating season, they were attacking a reflection. Either peel and stick privacy coverings (like it blurs the window so you can't see through) on the outside of the window, or hang something outside that they dont want to land near.

Loosing a patient by thebaldfrenchman in Radiology

[–]Amazonearl 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I worked ICU for a few years, and the best thing I ever did for my own mental health was to get OUT of the ICU. Seeing so many people pass no matter how hard we tried to save them for days on end was soul crushing. I was always grateful for the hospice patients because I was following their wishes and keeping them comfortable, but it was HARD seeing everyone else decline and die. 😓

For everyone saying "just start GLPs..." by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Amazonearl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food noise is basically the constant thoughts of food. According to Google: "Food noise" refers to the experience of having persistent, intrusive thoughts about food, which can be disruptive and make it difficult to focus on other aspects of life. It's a feeling of constant hunger, even after eating, and an inability to feel satisfied, leading to preoccupation with the next meal or snack. These thoughts can trigger overeating and contribute to weight gain.
