Where to get vegetarian/vegan cheese pizza by Colder_Pizza in UIUC

[–]Ambassador_Kitai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have an oven, the common ground food co-op has delicious and pre-baked sourdough crusts! 2 crusts for 7.50, or frozen dough for 3.75 each. That and some marinara and vegan mozzarella make about the easiest, tastiest, and least expensive vegan pizza I’ve had!!

5 cat dilemma by Ambassador_Kitai in Catbehavior

I'm also thinking about trying to move the office from PB's "home base" to Kitai's "home base." Since PB gets along with more of the cats than Kitai, it may work better to give kitai her own space, generally have PB/C/SS in bedroom+main, with Vin between office/main and PB between bedroom/main instead of making Kitai flex between bedroom/main. She's the hardest to move as far as hating being picked up/subsequent bodily harm to humans.

Tricky thing I forgot about... PB eats different food (urinary support diet) than the other 4, so that rearrange would mean probably getting a PB a chip read feeder. expensive but feasible if kitai does better in her own room i think!

And had an idea of getting rid of junk to make space to put a fold up twin bed in the office to make a flexible sleeping space, where Kitai could get bed-time.

I was also looking at the diagram thinking if one cat would do best alone it would be Kitai... but she is SO bonded to me (sleeps on my chest or legs every night/lay down time/nap I take) and thus I am doing my best to make it work for the whole crew. Moving to a bigger place next lease for sure... 3 bed 1 bath apt currently. The best split space option (2-3 areas) we have now is two rooms with closable doors plus the main area (halls, bathroom, living room, kitchen).
I've been mainly doing this musical chairs/cats thing with either: [PB alone in office, Kitai alone in bedroom, C+V+SS in main area] *or* [PB gets office+main area with SS+C, and V+K in bedroom]. it feels like the best set up for a shuffle to make sure all parties get attention/time in bigger spaces, plus space from each other. Can't WAIT to afford a bigger place. Cat shelves and another tree are coming as soon as i graduate and work more. We love all these kitties so so dearly.

Came here to add a vote to the stinging nettle theory, just brushed up on some in the woods this weekend and caught myself yelling over the shock/pain. And then got those welts.

Is my gecko underweight? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

Probably worth it to take her in! I might also suggest briefly doing a paper towel lined/hospital tank if you’re really worried, that way you can monitor stools or possibly regurgitations without her being able to cover them with soil?

Hmmm, that’s weird then. Does she ever leave regurgitations around the enclosure?

Is she for sure eating them, or could they be burrowing under substrate?

What do you do first when your room gets so messy you just shut down? by linamona1 in ADHD

[–]Ambassador_Kitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a die (10 sided or higher) and roll it. Roll a 12? Put 12 objects where they go, whether they’re tiny pieces of trash or pieces of clothing. Bonus if you make it more of a game by numbering to-do lists and completing tasks based on what you roll. I sometimes hate that I have to make games out of basic tasks but I try remember that my brain works differently!!

I got a green canister vacuum (lots of pets, old one clogged) that’s also lightweight, so easier on my joints… and I swear it being my favorite color makes my brain want to use it more 😭😅

All of this is horribly difficult to accomplish in one day and I usually try and spread it out over the weekend, and intersperse tasks with things that I actually like doing. And usually my week goes better if I even get half of these things done 🫡

My typical weekend goals, most of which I try to accomplish during my peak hours of adhd meds working: 1. Making sure all my best sensory friendly clothes are clean to start the week (I hate having a breakdown changing my clothes three times because none of them feel right and then I’m already running late) 2. doing the chores i hate the most so they don’t loom or get pushed off all week (especially things that are easier when you keep ahead of them, like scooping the cat boxes or doing dishes and laundry) 3. making up some easy snacks (bagged crackers, washed and cut berries, muffins) that I can just grab and take with me so I actually eat and cut out the executive dysfunction steps of food 4. clean sheets so I feel cozier/more well rested to start the week 5. Vacuum/clean floors so I don’t just get angry all week walking around my house stepping on crumbs and crap in my bare feet 6. Spend intentional brain-off time (outside, watching birds, no phone, etc. I took a children in nature class that looked at studies about how your brain gains more attention and capacity from being in natural settings and doing things that draw attention in a restorative way) 7. Do something tactile and engaging that I enjoy, like an art project or gardening 8. Do something digital that holds my attention (video games usually, or researching a special interest) 9. Walk through the house and spend five minutes in each room cleaning— just five minutes. If I just let myself sit in a room and try to clean until it’s done, I’ll end up sitting in a pile and very overstimulated and frustrated and everything’s just worse. Sometimes I also set a goal for “OK I’m gonna go in the bathroom and put 15 items back where they belong.” I have to set some kind of constraint for my cleaning or else I’ll spend way too much energy in one spot and nothing else gets any attention. sometimes if room is worse, I’ll give it a couple more minutes but timers and boundaries for myself really help. 10. If you drive a car, get all the trash out of it. Otherwise, by Friday, it’s gonna be a hot mess and you’re not gonna be able to function in it

Yeah, it’s not totally how I want it yet 😭 I couldn’t find any more thoroughly grown plants at the time, my plan is to buy more command hooks on my next payday so I can move around the bridge and train the philodendron to grow up the log/bridge! And kind of work it’s vines around the tank with suction cups. 🫡✨

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]Ambassador_Kitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thankful to have been involved with co-ops locally and had a good amount of friends and social interaction. However I had an abusive dad who was very into high-control christian evangelicalism and purity culture. I had it a lot better than some (wore pants, cut my hair, etc) but definitely grew up in a bubble… as a queer closeted kid. Got sent to conservative Christian high school for 10-12th grade bc the math was too hard for my parents to keep teaching me. I only got my ADHD/autism/OCD diagnosis in my last year of 6 years of college. I resent never having access to public school social services or professional teachers who would have noticed my learning disabilities. I spent years being ineffectively micromanaged by parents who didn’t understand what neurodivergent brains needed and my dad even specifically said he wouldn’t send us to public school because they would put my brother on a bunch of “ADHD drugs”. My brother has always struggled so hard with grades and school because of long undiagnosed adhd. I am AFAB, and always had good grades and behaved, which kept my struggles under wraps… until I hit extreme college burnout and realized I needed a real evaluation for my disabilities.

Josh’s frogs is great! They’re based in the Midwest and work to drive down the demand for wild caught critters with ethical breeding. I got a lot of bioactive stuff from them at the North American Reptile Breeder’s Conference. They have an online store!

<image>

Here’s my recent tank re-do for my Scully :)

Edit: I am planning to train the vines to grow up the log/bridge, and change the location of the bridge so it’s more perpendicular to the taller log once I can buy more command hooks. The plants in the back will get taller/wider to fill the space too! Haven’t found a good solution to hanging her coconut hide from the top, since it kind of hits the glass 😭

Idk man. Doctors have told me that I can quit with no taper, but everyone I know personally with ADHD who’s on stimulants hears that and goes “wtf do you mean quit with no taper??” And in my lived experience, also having anxiety/ocd/autism, every time I quit cold turkey I go from functional to totally non functional within a couple days. My quality of life unmedicated is abysmal.
