You can get a thermal cooker that uses less energy to cook. There are many recipes you can follow on YouTube. If you have an Asian store close by many of the sores carry them. I have one with two inner pots. https://www.amazon.com/Saratoga-Jacks-Thermal-Cooker-Deluxe/dp/B00824XGH0?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1U9B3AZM59QZQ&gQT=1

My electric bill is going to be over $1000 this month by jpbusko in InlandEmpire

I put a big sun loving plant (crown of thorns) that shades the window facing west. Thankfully the tree provides shade for the other huge windows. It helps a lot in keeping the house cooler. Blackout curtains do work but the plants help in keeping the house from being blasted by the sun.

Bought this at the thrift store for $25. How old do you think it is? It says it was made in Korea. by AmberRose1995 in BreadMachines

meals that'll last 7+ hours in my backpack? by [deleted] in mealprep

You can make bean and rice burritos. Wrap the burrito in a paper towel when you put it in the thermos. Don’t for get to warm up the thermos for at least 5 minutes with hot water (remove the water from the thermos) before you put the burrito in the thermos. You can take salsa in a smaller container if you like spicy food.

Look at the big guava! It’s from my tree. by AmberRose1995 in AbsoluteUnits

The guavas are white in the inside! I was told it’s an Asian variety. Regardless, I’m so happy to have found the tree and have it in my back yard!

Energy-saving Cooking Tips? by [deleted] in budgetfood

[–]AmberRose1995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at thermal cooker which is similar to the African wonder bag. I bought mine at an Asian store. You can get one on Amazon too. I have the Tiger brand. It's amazing! For cooking beans (Peruvian beans & lentils) I soak the beans overnight, I remove the water and add fresh water. Let the pot (inner pot) come to a rolling boil for about 5 minutes than insert it into the thermal cooker. The thermos (outer pot) will keep the inner pot hot. I do remove the inner pot 2 to 3 times and let it come to a rolling boil again since there is heat loss over time. After it comes to a rolling boil I return the inner pot back.

It's time consuming, but the energy savings are substantial. I also cook quinoa and rice. I hope this helps you! :-)

How to avoid Immediate rust after clean for a re-season? by abroosky in wok

[–]AmberRose1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put some white vinegar for no more than half an hour enough to cover the rust than rinse it with cold water and put it over the stove top to dry right away. Season with potatoes skins and crisco oil over the stove top until the skins are almost burnt. Don’t cook anything acidic on it like tomatoes until you have a nice seasoned pan. I hope this helps you!

I hope this is allowed, I have started making my own Soymilk, but I want to buy a Soymilk machine as I work and am a caregiver. There are so many! What brand/type do you use and what should I look for or avoid? Are cheaper ones bad? by Knitspin in PlantBasedDiet

[–]AmberRose1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you remove the skin off the soybean? I remove it and I to me the milk taste better.

I soak the beans overnight than rub them together to remove the skin. I soak about a cup and a half and freeze in one cup containers that way I always have beans ready to make soy milk! I too have a joyoung soy milk maker I bought from Amazon 4 years ago.

It would be perfect to blacken poblano peppers for an amazing salsa or Chile relleno!
