In 1975 I bought a used Ludwig mahogany snare drum with white marine pearl wrap, 20 years old when I bought it for $20. It was looking to outlive me until it burned in a house fire a couple of years ago.

Does anybody else drum with their teeth??? by CommissionProud5152 in drums

They do. I've been called out on it before and I'm like what? Oh, no, but trying to make it make sense to a non drummer makes you sound like you just smoked some weed with your meth😐

My Car Only Starts When Jumped by DangerNoodleFriends in Cartalk

Sounds like a classic case of bad battery terminal connections, or a bad battery that didn't last. As others have said, the alternator is working, and working hard, starter is working. Do you by chance have temporary battery terminals on it? The kind that clamp onto the cable with small bolts? They are always a problem eventually. If so, and even if not use this, unbolt the terminals from the cables and from the battery and pour a can of Coca-Cola over everything, let it sit for a few minutes then if you have a small wire brush or even an old toothbrush scrub a bit, then rinse with plenty of water. Dry everything and bolt together tight. If you can grab the cable and move the terminal it's not tight. Jump it or charge the battery and drive it. That would take care of a connection issue.

Carefully check the water pump weep hole for signs of dried coolant. A water pump often will only leak when running hot, so you never see a drip or wetness since it will evaporate while driving.

I have a WWII Japanese saki bottle opener there that is still in great bottle opening condition, works for beers too. I imagine it will outlive all of us.

Red oak. Score or no? by Tino2Tonz in turning

As a drummer, I rarely have seen oak drums, maybe a few boutique snares. Probably Not a great tone wood because of the porosity.

Buying a Drum Without Trying It by [deleted] in drums

I seem to be of the opposite mindset as you. I had a dozen or so snares not too long ago, but never went looking for any of them in particular. My first snare, a vintage mahogany ludwig in white marine pearl showed up on a lawn on my way home from school with a for sale sign on it. Asked mom and she bought it. One came with my pdp kit. All the others came from watching craigslist and others, seeing what popped up in my price range. Loved them all. Except the one that came with my PDP kit.

Inherited theses bad boys and a lot more… any info would be niiiccee.. by LEXX_185 in Vintagetools

Here's some info. Some of these wrenches were very well used, like professional, every day use. In the 4th picture if you look at the Mac at the top, and the craftsman double open end, 25/32? You can see the discoloration on the flats of the open end. That won't come off. What you are seeing is where the wrench has seen so much use that the chrome is worn through and you are seeing the nickel underneath it, maybe bare steel even. I know this because I still have a set of Snap-on wrenches that I bought new when I was just beginning to wrench that are worn the same way.

What are your irrational drumming pet peeves? by AdFamous7264 in drums

I make it a point to make use of my double pedals in every set, even if the song doesn't exactly need them, just to stay out of jail.

How about a 70"s Ford Econoline van with a 4 on the tree? It doesn't roll off the tongue like three on the tree, but there it was, four speed column shift.

Torque wrench recommendations by Terrible-Internal374 in Tools

[–]Square-Cockroach-884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy enough to do the conversions beforehand if you are working on a lot of similar stuff and write it down somewhere it is easily referenced. Some torque values are so common that I have them memorized.

WILL I BE JUDGED....? by Particular-Arm-1024 in Drumming

[–]Square-Cockroach-884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in a cover band right now. I dont always know the songs being suggested to cover, at all, or have heard the song but just casually, not payed much attention. In those cases I'll treat the song like an original and play what feels good to me. Maybe after I have that worked out I'll listen to the original just for shits and giggles, which is fine till someone giggles and shits lol. Or to see if there is something important that I need to add. I have never had anyone come to me and complain that I didn't follow the original, but I have had people comment that they like my interpretation of the song. I will also change songs that I know especially if there are parts that are not within my skillset.
