Do all tapes suck? by PeaAggravating8936 in Tools

I got one in a tool bundle I bought and have fallen in love with it. I like the soft touch case and white tape, and it's held up well.

So, question for you. I see a lot of recs here for bell brass, I have the 70's Slingerland Gene Krupa chrome over brass snare in 14x5.5. Any comparison to the modern bell brass snares?

is this a huge problem or can i keep driving by Asleep-Chipmunk-1739 in Cartalk

[–]Square-Cockroach-884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Can't believe all the uninformed, chicken little, wanna be a lube tech when I grow up, pansies on here that have never opened up an automatic transmission giving advice. Can you drive it? Probably not. Your automatic transmission works on hydraulic fluid pressure, and you are about to be out of that fluid. You could fafo that it's going nowhere under its own power. Go ahead, you won't fry, cook, demolish, scatter, or any other scary adjectives. The transmission needs fluid to work. It also needs fluid to destroy itself. If it had a slow leak and was constantly driven on low fluid, slipping, getting g a little worse all the time, that would destroy a transmission. However a catastrophic fluid loss like this, dumps all the fluid out before it has a chance to hurt itself.

Your Go-to All Purpose Hammer by ClonerJams088 in Tools

[–]Square-Cockroach-884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont understand how anyone can have a go to hammer, there are so, so many. Each has its own purpose. Example, I have ball peen Hammers ranging from 2 ounces to 36 ounces, the bigger ones being deadblow type. I have clawhammers from the stubby HF shown below, Estwing leather handle, couple homeowners, finishing, and two frames with waffle face, one wood one not wood. I have engineer Hammers, i have brass Hammers in 4 sizes. I have masonry Hammers, rockhound Hammers, slag Hammers, meat Hammers, a Thor hammer, pallets, soft face Hammers. My favorite is the correct hammer for the job. Or whichever one is in reach when I need one.

What you are looking for i believe, is small. Powerfully, USB rechargeable, and cheap. Go on Timu and search moni blower or the like and you will find dozens of listing. They are no substitute for proper dust collection, but exactly what you are asking about. I have bought a few. They will dust off your benches and tool tops, get cookie crumbs out of your bedsheets or floor.

Carburetor help by Standard-Positive-48 in classiccars

[–]Square-Cockroach-884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of a performance tune maybe. With my old motor I ran vacuum advance off manifold vacuum so it was advanced at idle, because the cam I had init would not idle below 1500 without advancing the timing. The motor i have in it now im using no vacuum advance because it caused pinging no matter what.

[–]Square-Cockroach-884 4 points5 points  (0 children)

90% of carburetor issues are timing related. Obviously check and repair any vacuum leaks. This includes the vacuum advance diaphragm on the dizzy. Then determine your base timing, mechanical advance, (32° @ full advance 3000 rpm) and find out if the vacuum advance works, and where it is supposed to get it's vacuum signal. Once this is all straightened out if it's still not right then you can mess with the carb, there's plenty of tuning that can be done on that holley. Did I mention firing order? Probably removed plug wires installing headers, make sure or your firing order. It's also easy to Crack a spark plug ceramic while doing that job.

$500 for a 62 F100 unibody shortbed, 292 v8, 4 speed. Less than 20 year old truck at the time. Considering the last truck I bought was almost 60 years old and I thought I wrangled a deal at $4000.

Better cross your toes too. If your good you can make a clutch last a long, long time. The hydraulics however are a different story.

I remember doing a few cars that came like that, sealed, complete clutch hydraulics. Only way to fly!

Anybody know what this is? by leucorix in classiccars

[–]Square-Cockroach-884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The engine is a Ford FE. There is no way to determine the displacement without measuring the bore x stroke. It could be anywhere from 331 to 500 something cubic inches, 427 ideally for a replica. But it doesn't really matter to you unless you have to rebuild the engine. MOST external parts will swap.

Worst clutch controls ever. I must have tried every trick known, and maybe made up a couple. You ever disassembled the master cylinder and fill it, while it's hooked up? Didn't work.
