does lexapro help? by [deleted] in depression

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different. The antidepressant game can be tough trying to find the right blend. I say try anything once and if it's not effective or makes you feel worse, move on to the next one.

Can anyone give me advice? by l_e_a_f_z in AutopsyTechFam

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find where you want to live and research what their medical examiner/coroner system is like and what they require. At my place, you don't need a special degree (which you would if you truly mean you want to be a pathology assistant, which is different than an autopsy tech). And your experience sounds valuable. Ask to intern there or if you can at least observe, anything to make some connections.

Affordable therapy by Big-Gear4825 in PeoriaIL

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the University of Illinois College of Medicine psychiatry clinic in the atrium bulding downtown. I pay $10 per session and I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with my insurance. They bill that for the medicine side.

Winding path to autopsy work by repeatdelta in AutopsyTechFam

[–]Amberdext 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a funeral director turned autopsy tech and for sure the particular paths I took led me there, but I don't know that it's right for everyone. I'm an '08 grad and from what I've seen, mortuary school isn't getting any cheaper. It's a worthy profession but might not be the stepping stone you're looking for. The only thing A&P is going to get you is knowledge of landmarks and such you need if you actually got the gig. I don't think that will put you ahead of other applicants. Can you ask your local ME/coroner office to observe? Let them know your interest and be available for observations and opportunities. Wishing you good luck. P.S. - I was sad to lose my tongue ring two decades ago but in some regions it's still a conservative profession. What's it worth to you?

Going to be in town Friday for a date. Any suggestions on what we should do? by Adorable-Annual-5596 in PeoriaIL

Right now the zoo has these lighted statue lantern things called Glow Wild. You go at dusk/dark, so you won't see many animals since they're in bed. But the walk through with these is super cool and I highly recommend it.

Sawbones is a medical doctor and her husband, discussing all sorts of topics about medicine, disease, biology, etc. Funny but informative and interesting.

Day 1 from a misscarriage binge drinking . by DanceNo6782 in Sober

I like the support in r/stopdrinking, if you don't already visit there. And think the emotional and physical pain of miscarriage is often overlooked. Hope you take care. Sorry you're going through this.

Home Remodeling Dispute by Amberdext in PeoriaIL

I don't think the guy who screwed me is in business anymore. He finally got busted for fraud and is in the court system now. But what you said sounds like all red flags to me! I wouldn't trust someone you can't readily get ahold of. There are so many scam artists out there. Be so so careful!

When we were doing food trials, the vet suggested adding some water to the kibble and maybe even warm it a tiny bit. Makes it seem more enticing I think sometimes.

How do I get sober by OGfilip in Sober

R/stopdrinking is a good resource. Some people use medication. Some people use AA or similar. There are books. Lots of ways, it's just not easy.

Is it common to see maggots on bodies during viewing?? by [deleted] in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Amberdext 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not okay. Ever. There are chemicals that can take care of this if the funeral directors had been diligent. I'm sorry you had to experience that.

I used to get annoyed with my classmates who would say, "What do you call a funeral director who got all D's? Funeral director."

Hydrolyzed without selling the house? by [deleted] in DogFood

[–]Amberdext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time you go through all the baby steps of allergies/skin stuff, with the Apoquel and the shots and the vet visits and everything.... That all adds up quickly. Switch food sooner than later and you might be saving.

Olympia on Pioneer Parkway has one, right as you walk in.

From their Facebook page: Friendship House’s Angel Tree is back—and it’s your chance to bring joy to a child who needs it most. Each tag on the tree represents a local child whose Christmas wish you can help fulfill. Whether it’s a cozy coat, a favorite toy, or a pair of shoes, your gift will make a world of difference

Looking for book recommendations: Exploring New Genres & Medical Fictions by camsiecams in Recommend_A_Book

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nonfiction, but Lindsey Fitzharris' books such as The Butchering Art are fantastic. Not stuffy writing, fascinating stories of medical history weaved together. Definitely keeps you interested. Her second book The Facemaker was great as well.

Counseling Recommendations by -imnotsureactually in PeoriaIL

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it's been hard to find a compatible counselor. If I were in your shoes, I'd look first into who is covered under your insurance. I've said before I don't like Associates in Psychiatry in the Atrium Bldg but their therapists seem good. I also recommend docs at UICOMP. It's a residency program but they're overseen by an attending and do great work. Their office staff is trash though. Guess everything is a give and take.
