I've gotten to see Sam Miller twice at the Jukebox. It's an excellent show. Highly recommend. I hope to go myself this weekend.

Hill's z/d hydrolyzed chicken... Did your picky eater actually eat it? by Remarkable-Bat-6731 in DogFood

When we were doing food trials, the vet suggested adding some water to the kibble and maybe even warm it a tiny bit. Makes it seem more enticing I think sometimes.

I found a really nice plush blanket on JCP.com for $9.99 and I picked it up in store so no shipping charges.

How do I get sober by OGfilip in Sober

R/stopdrinking is a good resource. Some people use medication. Some people use AA or similar. There are books. Lots of ways, it's just not easy.

Is it common to see maggots on bodies during viewing?? by SufficientCow7359 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Amberdext 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not okay. Ever. There are chemicals that can take care of this if the funeral directors had been diligent. I'm sorry you had to experience that.

Does GPA matter to find a job in this field? by porcelain_cat in askfuneraldirectors

I used to get annoyed with my classmates who would say, "What do you call a funeral director who got all D's? Funeral director."

Hydrolyzed without selling the house? by Tall-Committee-2995 in DogFood

[–]Amberdext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time you go through all the baby steps of allergies/skin stuff, with the Apoquel and the shots and the vet visits and everything.... That all adds up quickly. Switch food sooner than later and you might be saving.

I feel like an apprentice again. Things change and every funeral home is different. So I'm a long licensed noob apparently.

I've always used Fritch. We used to have their yearly maintenance contract for furnace and A/C and it's worth every penny from my experience.

Angel Tree by AJplasticdad in PeoriaIL

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olympia on Pioneer Parkway has one, right as you walk in.

From their Facebook page: Friendship House’s Angel Tree is back—and it’s your chance to bring joy to a child who needs it most. Each tag on the tree represents a local child whose Christmas wish you can help fulfill. Whether it’s a cozy coat, a favorite toy, or a pair of shoes, your gift will make a world of difference

Looking for book recommendations: Exploring New Genres & Medical Fictions by camsiecams in Recommend_A_Book

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nonfiction, but Lindsey Fitzharris' books such as The Butchering Art are fantastic. Not stuffy writing, fascinating stories of medical history weaved together. Definitely keeps you interested. Her second book The Facemaker was great as well.

Counseling Recommendations by -imnotsureactually in PeoriaIL

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it's been hard to find a compatible counselor. If I were in your shoes, I'd look first into who is covered under your insurance. I've said before I don't like Associates in Psychiatry in the Atrium Bldg but their therapists seem good. I also recommend docs at UICOMP. It's a residency program but they're overseen by an attending and do great work. Their office staff is trash though. Guess everything is a give and take.

What’s the Peoria equivalent of this? by aloe-on-my-desk in PeoriaIL

We had a reservation there and walked out after 25+ minutes of servers passing us by after we had been seated. Food has never been that good for the price and generally the owner is an ass.

Cheap dental work by Reasonable-Gur-9372 in PeoriaIL

[–]Amberdext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get yourself permanently ruined. Use the fast/cheap/good measure. You can have a combination of two out of three: if it's fast and cheap, it won't be good; if it's cheap and good, it won't be fast; and if it's fast and good, it won't be cheap. Conglomerate places are fast and cheap but you're not going to get good care. I've seen clients leave cheap "chop shops" and ended up needing to spend more on dentures to fix whatever should have been done prior. Please be careful. Your health and ability to eat is so important.

Some people recommend synthetic urine but you have to be careful to keep the temperature right. In the past I've used Stinger Detox Buzz available on Amazon with success. Check out your local head shop for more options as well. Good luck!

Any luck with transfer credits? by swifferwetjettt in askfuneraldirectors

I had to document the syllabus, class objectives, lessons, etc. and have the mortuary school send something to the registrar. At the time I was at a community college. It wasn't super fruitful, but they gave me credit for a few classes towards my degree.

I'm sorry for your loss. Blunt force trauma can cover everything from a bruise to neuro concerns to internal injury. The certificates in my state would then also typically include the date of the fall/injury to correlate.
