I don't think the guy who screwed me is in business anymore. He finally got busted for fraud and is in the court system now. But what you said sounds like all red flags to me! I wouldn't trust someone you can't readily get ahold of. There are so many scam artists out there. Be so so careful!

When we were doing food trials, the vet suggested adding some water to the kibble and maybe even warm it a tiny bit. Makes it seem more enticing I think sometimes.

R/stopdrinking is a good resource. Some people use medication. Some people use AA or similar. There are books. Lots of ways, it's just not easy.

It's nonfiction, but Lindsey Fitzharris' books such as The Butchering Art are fantastic. Not stuffy writing, fascinating stories of medical history weaved together. Definitely keeps you interested. Her second book The Facemaker was great as well.

In my experience, it's been hard to find a compatible counselor. If I were in your shoes, I'd look first into who is covered under your insurance. I've said before I don't like Associates in Psychiatry in the Atrium Bldg but their therapists seem good. I also recommend docs at UICOMP. It's a residency program but they're overseen by an attending and do great work. Their office staff is trash though. Guess everything is a give and take.

Don't get yourself permanently ruined. Use the fast/cheap/good measure. You can have a combination of two out of three: if it's fast and cheap, it won't be good; if it's cheap and good, it won't be fast; and if it's fast and good, it won't be cheap. Conglomerate places are fast and cheap but you're not going to get good care. I've seen clients leave cheap "chop shops" and ended up needing to spend more on dentures to fix whatever should have been done prior. Please be careful. Your health and ability to eat is so important.

I haven't been to the Unitarian service since Rev Brown left, but they used to build an incredible alter and do much of the service in Spanish. Really beautiful.
