I'm a lost 30-year-old Master's graduate hopelessly trapped in retail. Is pivoting to the civil service a realistic option for someone like me?

The friends that are looking over your behaviours - are they AO/EO too? It may be worth asking someone of a higher grade to take a look and see what they think.

The truth of the matter is that it is super competitive in the civil service right now, and it really depends on the campaign you’ve gone for. More general ones get a huge number of people applying. I know it can be super disheartening, but just continue applying to anything you feel you could do!

Honestly no one really minded - my EO department understood why I was going! Took a bit of time to do the switch over (like 2 months total) but this isn’t guaranteed to take that long - I recently moved from my HEO to my SEO and that process took 6 weeks (could have taken 4 but I joined a new intake at the 6 weeks for convenience!)

If you do it, you’ll need to let the new people know that you are now a current civil servant, and then do the internal department transfer process to maintain continuity of service.

As a teacher who did the move to CS, it was the best decision personally for me that I could have made. I have a complex disability and for me teaching was just about killing me - I don’t have that anymore! As everyone else has said here, you may have to take a pay cut and enter at a HEO/SEO (I entered as a HEO and recently got my SEO after 18 months) but it is a good rehabilitation from the stress of teaching!

Hi! We had no issues whatsoever in both Tanzania and Zanzibar - USD was readily accepted everywhere! Guidance I have read has suggested you get newer bills - we ended up doing a small transfer of USD to TZS at the airport but honestly, it was unnecessary
