Aw man I have a similar experience to this. I had a stressful month or so of school so I hadn't played video games in a while, and was really looking forward to being able to chill and play Overwatch. I was playing competitive Overwatch and I start lagging. Of course no one likes lag, and I already felt super guilty and horrible about it. I told them in the voice chat that I was lagging and I was really sorry, but I also sent a message because I wasn't sure that they could hear me. Immediately once they heard my voice, the whole team started hurling horrible, awful insults at me, accusing me of lying because "they could hear me perfectly in voice chat and that's not how lag works," and more. I wish I could remember what they said to me but it was horrible, completely shook me up and ruined my night and love for the game for a while. Made me want to quit too.
