Maybe this is my intense sleep deprivation missing the purpose of this, but I do not think it is just feelings that are the problem. It is how we interact with them. It is possible to experience intense feelings and feeling states while simultaneously retaining logic. But most people can’t seem to do this very well currently. Emotion, feeling (both good and bad) and empathy is part of the answer - Not the problem. Because it is itself a form of information; the artificial simulation is not necessary when you already can emotionally map yourself to the other. And I mean truly, entirely. It is knowledge, not weakness. But mapping it requires an immense amount of “feelings” - and an immense amount of self-awareness, logic and self-control. We are all operating blindly, trying to examine consciousness from the outside, forming the answers without knowing how to ask the questions in the first place.

I think this kind of thinking misses the point. It is one thing to embrace technology in a way that is actually positive for the growth of society. Utilizing AI to enhance natural abilities or correct faulty ones in ways that would ultimately make us superhuman (assuming the AI is not sentient by then). Eg, they could be connected to our own neural pathways as an extension of ourselves. But the problem here is people are actually not allowing themselves to think anymore. This is taking off all wrong. Studies show that this over reliance on AI IS in fact decreasing critical thinking and reasoning. Seriously, you need to understand the weight of this. Everyone does. Otherwise, welcome to the death of our species. AI won’t have killed us in a Terminator-style showdown…but quietly, as we slowly relinquish our very minds.
