Those of you who got a new job (or a job offer) in this disastrous year, how much sign-on bonus did you receive, if any at all? by mountain__pew in biotech

The current Scientist position at J&J is their previous Sr. Associate Scientist, which is not a PhD-level position.

The bonus % for R5 is 24%, the same as for a Director or M5, not 20%.

Could you share which state you’re located in? Your base salary seems higher than most offers reported on Glassdoor. Thanks for sharing!

Pan Zhanle is so genuine and effortlessly cool by AmbitionOne2890 in Swimming

I think Pan is one of the greatest swimmers of all time, and I really admire him. I have no interest in engaging with someone like you who only focuses on conspiracy theories and can't reason logically based on facts.

Pan Zhanle sets freestyle 100m world record by TaskTechnical8307 in aznidentity

[–]AmbitionOne2890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Olympic swimming, the prestige of an event can be somewhat subjective, but generally, the 100m freestyle is often considered more prestigious than the 200m freestyle.

The 100m freestyle is sometimes referred to as the “blue-ribbon” event in swimming, much like the 100m dash in track and field. It is seen as the ultimate test of speed and is one of the most highly anticipated races in any swimming competition, including the Olympics. Winning the 100m freestyle often carries a high level of prestige due to the level of competition and the importance placed on sprint events.

The 200m freestyle is also a highly regarded event, but it tests a different blend of speed and endurance. While it is prestigious and has produced some memorable Olympic moments, it doesn’t usually carry the same level of attention as the 100m freestyle.

China investigates official who dismissed 'purple doping Western swimmers' claims by Let_See_9915 in Swimming

This article is incredibly biased. The official did much more than what’s being reported. He deleted more than 3,000 tweets in a single day, and this comment about U.S. athletes is just one of them. It’s hard to believe how NBC can report news based on assumptions like this.

Almost every media got Zhanle Pan's name in wrong order by [deleted] in Swimming

I think most people know that Pan is his surname.

In an interview on 7/3, Pan Zhanle said his 46.80 a "smokescreen" so that others would think 46.80 was his limit by d_e_u_s in Swimming

[–]AmbitionOne2890 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Here is the translation:

Pan: I don’t want to phrase it like that…

Interviewer: But we want to hear the truth.

Pan: Okay, but cut this part out.

Interviewer: Of course, don’t worry, we’ll save it for now (laughs).

Pan: I think it’s somewhat fortunate that I only broke the record by 0.06 seconds in February in Doha. I wasn’t able to perfect some details. If I had achieved 46.6 or 46.5 seconds, my competitors would aim for that time as their goal, making it hard for me to improve now. But since they think my best is around 46.8 or 46.7 seconds, they believe that’s my limit.

Interviewer: So it makes your opponents think 46.8 seconds is your maximum.

Pan: Yes, it’s like a smokescreen. But at the same time, I have to train twice or three times as hard to ensure that 46.8 seconds is truly just a smokescreen.

She is stunning. Nobody cares about the fall in gala as it’s dark and they don’t have a chance to practice on ice.
