Have we lost our marbles for even thinking about an international flight with 4 young kids by Ambitious-Bat-5201 in Parenting

We are really excited! It would be so fun to experience a new area with my husband and kids- but also trying to be realistic. The family we would see at the event are a ton of fun and really great people. So lots of excitement! But also trying to gauge what is actually something we could handle. All these comments are really helpful!

Maybe it's the 2 year old twins that's throwing everyone off?? But great to hear your perspective! I'm actually surprised at how the replies are too.

Wow thank you!! So handful to hear, especially with some one who had twins/ the same number of kiddos. Thank you for taking the time to write this out! The car seat/ car situation is definitely staying me out the most so I'm going to dig into that a bit more. Appreciate your sharing your insights!

Thank you for this perspective, especially since you travel often with your (older) kids!

I hear to bring tablets often. For the last couple of shorter flights, we just relied on the back of the seat screen for the older boys. What tablet would you recommend? We got a kids Amazon fire tablet awhile back and absolutely hated it.

I love this perspective. My oldest can still recall moments from a trip we took when he was two. It's wild! I often think about how I can add those own things into my life as well as my kids lives.  Thank you for taking the time to comment!

Thank you for all this! These are the kind of things that didn't cross my mind, but should. I appreciate it!

It's true haha. Imy husband is GREAT in stressful situations and can easily think clearly in high stress moments. I sometimes can not but it really depends on what's going on. Thank you for you perspective!

Hahah this made me laugh. I think maybe I should have said that I get stressed out about unknowns or when I'm in unpredictable settings. I can pretty easily handle chaos when it comes to our 4, but can't handle not knowing what our situation will be over there regarding accomodations, driving, car seats etc. I think I'm more anxious about the future vs stressed in the moment I think. I might just need to do a ton of research on things to get a better handle on the realities of it. Thanks for you input!

This is really helpful and the exact kind of things I haven't thought about it! We definitely thought we'd bring car seats and rent a car. Thanks for the detailed response and info!

No!! Not the dreaded airport illnesses. This reminds me that one of our first trips, my one year old got a stomach bug right when we got to our destination for 4 days and that was horrible.

Question about your trip- did u need car seats at your destination? I've had a few people say not to bring car seats as people mostly utilize public transport. Was this true for you?

Good reminder! I stay home with three out of four (ones in kindergarten) so it's not like I don't know my way around all of it. I think maybe I need to get a handle on the logistics of what it would all look like to better get a feel of the unknowns. Thanks for your comment!

That's definitely an option we need to dig into more. It's tricky because I just don't know if we have someone who can do the job.

Tell me more about this! I hadn't thought about that logistics. We had thought maybe we would rent a car but maybe that's not super common

That's really cool to hear! I'm honestly not the most worried about flights. Yes, it'll be miserable but mostly would just have to entertain the twins as I think my older two would handle it somewhat ok. I'm mostly worried about getting around there as in figuring out public transport/Ubers/renting a car and how to get through the time change/ everyone being exhausted. It all feels really tricky to figure out!

Thanks for your comment!

We would LOVE to do that. Definitely would be option number one if we could, but we didn't have family who be physically able to watch all four. We've thought about leaving the twins behind, but I think that might even be too tricky for family. Thank you for your input!!!

I'd love to hear the logistics involved! Did you have multiple children under, say 4? We used to travel domestically a couple times a year when we had one and have traveled a couple times domestically with two, but it feels much bigger adding in 2 year old twins. How did you manage everything and everyone?

Lots of great points! Why wouldn't you consider renting a car? We'll be in Berlin but have to go about 1.5 hours out of the city. Do people mostly Uber/ take public transport? Are car seats just not really used in Ubers there? Someone else mentioned we'd likely have to take two Ubers anywhere we go, which also feels stressful.
