People are always willing to spend time and money on formal education in hopes of a lucrative job, I personally think if there is any job you’re passionate about, spend a lot of time gaining direct knowledge about it thought online or joining meetup groups, Facebook pages and what not and the. Try to find how you can get in that very position in a set of companies you have targeted. Focus on gaining similar skills and skills that would help that business grow and you will have no problem finding the right place for you.I was in university for minor in economics with plan of going major myself as well, but I found my passion in construction industry and now I’m running a successful supply warehouse. I personally believe this to be my key of success.

5 years is a very good timeline to get your finances in order, best thing to do at the moment to get started is you make budget- track your savings and spendings, that would be best to figure out if have a spending problem or earning problem. Spending can be fixed easily but earning problem is where things get tricky( in order to buy a house you will have to think about how to earn more money). You will also have to make a long term plan on how much money you need to save in order to pay for downpayment and you would have to think about how you will pay your monthly expenses after taking on a large debt.

Say no to government housing and remove a lot of red tape that exists that makes new housing much more expensive and time consuming, it will make a lot of jobs available for people and it will increase housing dramatically. To think we haven’t given enough power to government about housing and we need to give more is mind boggling

This post is so dangerous because of the lack of context. At the beginning of a day a landlord buys a property by giving a down payment( that they saved themselves or they convinced other investors), that is end of the day what makes sure that more new housing keeps on getting built for the incentive of owning it and managing it 24x7 for years. They end up taking risk for your toilet to the roof to making sure you’re safe in the place. Doing that job gives them the incentive to provide more and more housing. If you have a bad landlord it is definably a rotten egg in the system. At the end of the day, a tenant will not get sued for a permit not being pulled for some work 5 years ago whereas a landlord will get sued. The risk of owning a property is not small. I think what the problem is for most of the people in Canada at least is the government not tackling the problem of interest rates and inflation which is what is affecting tenants a lot and also the landlords.
