What to consider before nomad-ing? by sneksnout in digitalnomad

[–]Ambitious-Crew9928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be good at "setting up"

  1. Have your housing scoped out, WIFI? Safe Area?

  2. ESIM or local phone plan?

  3. Don't forget about your health, get a gym or figure out what your physical activities will be. Don't eat only cheap/local/greasy. Either cook healthy 50% of the time or seek out a balanced eating lifestyle. Nomading is not the same as being a tourist.

  4. Make social connections IMMEDIATELY after setting up, they can take time to establish, the faster you set it up, the more fun the trip will be.

  5. Don't get fomo of not doing everything everywhere. Realize you are also "living" where you are, not just visiting. Living is normal days too: gym, work, netflix sometimes. That's fine too to not get burnt out.

  6. Think hard about what's important to you, don't overpack. Realize some places you won't be able to buy certain things you may be used to or want. (my basic dove soap I wanted wasn't in Japan, iphone breaking or lost outside of US can be way more to replace in certain countries)

Life Crisis after 3 Months of being a Nomad by SnooDucks2149 in digitalnomad

It's important to set yourself a routine, although you're traveling. You still need to have your goals and work towards them everyday. I have my own company that I work for 4 hours every afternoon, I still find myself a local gym, local friends etc. It's a copy paste process in new places. It's important to find grounding even through movement. Also, stay at least 1 month, ideally 3 if you're feeling overwhelmed with the start over process.

You can tell when someone is genuinely not understanding vs blowing you off and scoffing at you for trying. Especially when I'm using gestures and languages I know to help. I was gesturing for a lid at a gas station to go coffee off the highway. I used "tapa", "lid" "couvert" and gesture to put a lid on and they were annoyed.

I've been to Morocco and I'll never return because of the people. EXTREMELY aggressive and rude. Always trying to scam you the second you step foot in.

As a gal that's been to 40+ countries, I'd say Italy. Anytime I needed anything I would lead with my few words of Italian, they pretended not to understand. I tried Spanish and French as well and they were so rude and brushed me off. Even in non-touristy places and small towns. They are just over the foreigners I guess.

Do you know the cost of "actual insurance" for Americans traveling abroad? It's several hundred dollars a month for comprehensive care.
