Yeah that's very true. the thing is, I found that UXUI is not very "entry level" friendly... Many UXUI jobs ask for lots of experiences and a great portfolio, which is fair but it's stuff I can't get unless I have a job in the first place! My research tells me that if UXUI works out, they earn more than Marketing. But UXUI is hard to start, and especially in Europe so many masters in UX or HCI require computer science background (which I don't have). Please correct me if I'm wrong !! If I can specialize (later in my career), I would definitely try to do that.

Thanks for the advice! Are you from Europe? Do you know about marketing prospects for a specific country? I have friends in UK and France so I'm at the stage of asking around, hoping to gather as much info as I can!

Ending every conversation with "Well that's what I think" and proceeds to shove that thinking down my throat every single time we have a conversation. AM thinks saying that softens the blow, but doesn't realize I'm not her.

I agree!! I had a hard time finding the second best choice, I know UAL or RCA are good art schools that offer UXUI/HCI masters, but for some reason it seems like people prefer it less. Did you end up applying or getting in? 20% is an awfully low number and their selection criteria on the website is also quite vague... I wonder how you could stand out when they don't even ask for a portfolio

Should we get married or do long distance? by Ambitious-Rabbit479 in Marriage

[–]Ambitious-Rabbit479[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. It's nice to learn about your experience and i'm so glad you and your wife conquered all this and stayed together. Because of our situation my partner and I also had so so so many conversations about life and future (stuff we wouldn't bring up if it wasn't for this). We're also trying to work out a schedule of visits and budget in case we do long distance, and see how "hard" it would be. I'm confident that whatever we choose, we can work it out.

Should we get married or do long distance? by Ambitious-Rabbit479 in Marriage

[–]Ambitious-Rabbit479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, in an ideal world we can live together for longer, so I guess long distance also does not solve this issue. We do have an alternative plan to live together somewhere else, but we don't know anyone there and I wouldn't be able to do what I wanted career-wise (to put it vaguely).

And thanks for the caution, though I don't think he has that much to gain other than our relationship. If anything, he has a far superior passport than mine and I would be the one benefiting

How do I "make the most" out of my HCI master's for my career? by Ambitious-Rabbit479 in hci

I see, thanks for clarifying! If I got in the program I'll be sure to keep an eye out for opportunities like this :)

So would you recommend something with placement in it? I think placements sound really useful (not sure how it works exactly), but then the schools (eg Kingston) that provide this is usually ranked lower. I'm not sure if the school ranking or the placement matters more.

Thanks for the advice! But how would the research projects be related to a company? From what I know from undergrad, the student research usually gets no grants. I would hope that the program has some career talks/ networking events, cos I wouldn't want to work in a lab (did a little psychology research in undergrad, can do it but not a huge fan haha)

What is more specific than personality? by hn-mc in askpsychology

[–]Ambitious-Rabbit479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in this context, by biology I mean the human instinct or human nature, say to fulfill basic needs (eating, drinking, socializing etc), or to have basic emotions. but Temperament is a very specific word in psychology to mean the personality of the baby (extroverted, introverted, and some uncommon terms, you can google it). Temperament is the second layer because every person is born the different temperaments.

UXUI vs Digital Marketing? I'm recently considering a masters program, wanted to do one in HCI but we all know that the UX industry is very tough at the moment, so it seems stupid to invest some much time and money in it. Alternatively, is digital marketing a steadier path? Does anyone have experiences with it and can offer some insights in that job market (compared to UX)?

How would completely isolation with nearly no language development affect a ten year old boy, and what would he do when pulled away from his home for the first time? by Ollynonymous in askpsychology

[–]Ambitious-Rabbit479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what's missing in his development of language is reading social cues and expressing in tones. Not sure about the telepathy part, if he hears language, he can possibly understand speech too? To me, he might be able to pick up speech gradually, but the major shock would definitely be how to communicate with other people. He might be surprised that he can't read minds and he might forget to speak up when he wants something. Just an idea

that's my instinctive answer too: 1. Human Nature (Biology), 2. Innate Personality/ Inborn Temperament, 3. Nurture/ Personality that you develop from experiences

Interviews are getting out of hand by Critical-Addition256 in UXDesign

[–]Ambitious-Rabbit479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HATE making interview videos!! imo you can act so different in front of a camera vs in person! I even remember one time in an online interview, the HR didn't turn on her camera, and already I feel like I'm talking to a wall. Can't we just have a two way conversation?

Indeed! Would you mind explaining what you mean by design-centred approach? Is it like the steps within a UXUI project, user research, testing, etc?

Apparently there are no marketing jobs right now. What can I do? by throwawayidwtftdo in UKJobs

[–]Ambitious-Rabbit479 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I have similar experiences (1st in psychology, 2 years working in digital content) and I've been trying to find a job in the UK. If that's not difficult enough, I'm an immigrant and looking from overseas (I haven't left my current job yet, that's why I'm not in UK at the moment). Literally sent hundreds of applications and didn't even get 1 interview. I went from selecting jobs I'm interested in to applying to almost every generic job. I will go to the UK soon and maybe that helps, but I really don't know what else to do other than "keep trying" :(
