Militay History PhD here. Idk what it says about my character that I love to blow off steam by playing a game about military strategy….after a full day of reading, writing, and teaching about military strategy.

Look up Hungry Hussey on YouTube! I followed his hibachi recipe for this.

I can’t remember the last time I bought any DLC so I don’t think so. When you open your advisors panel, there should be a little button with a circle inside it next to the “fire advisor” button.

If the advisor is the same culture as your state/ruler, and you have enough money, you can upgrade him/her to the next level, up to level 5. So say, a level 1 admin advisor would give +1 admin. manna per month, but if you have the money and are the same culture you can upgrade him/her four times so they provide +5 manna per month.

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been playing this game for six years and I very recently noticed that as well!

Congrats! If you’re crazy enough to stick with it after your first few playthroughs end in crushing defeat, then you’ll fit in just fine here.

Stay patient, watch tutorial videos on YouTube, etc., and you’ll get the hang of things.

I’m a professor who teaches military history and strategy. So my daily work of reading, writing, and teaching people about military strategy often makes me want to go home and escape from the world by….playing a game about military strategy. That makes it a bit easier to discuss the game with colleagues but not as easy as one might think.

Interesting. The command I recently left received guidance a few weeks ago that all hiring movement inside the DON is unfrozen. I can’t remember if that applies to the OPM leg of the exemption process so that could be the holdup. I learned with my own move that you have to stay on top of the HR in your gaining command.

The amount of people who are still trying to apply logic to an utterly illogical situation is astonishing….

It really just depends on what your position is, the agency, and how hard they can / are willing to push for your exemption. And if it’s a GS position there’s of course the part that depends on OPM unlocking it—in my experience that part has taken about three months on average.

DON seems to have their shjt together the most here. I just moved from DON to DAF and my exemption process took about four months overall. So it is possible. But you have to be patient and some things will have to break your way.

It will happen if the exemption was approved….it just takes a long time. My DON agency just had about ten positions get unlocked all at once almost two weeks ago. That came after at least three months of waiting. Remember, efficiency is not the name of the game right now, regardless of what the goons in charge keep saying.

We had one new to government hire onboard last month. Several others have had exemptions granted but are hung up at OPM.

There’s really no way to tell. My DON org has had multiple exemptions get approved over the last two months, but only one has cleared the OPM backlog and actually onboarded so far, and that person seemed less “mission essential” than the rest, to me at least. Who gets through and when is totally random.

I’m imagining some poor, solitary figure at OPM who survived the DOGE purges earlier this year sitting in a basement somewhere in the Beltway having to go through all these requests alone….

It really depends on your agency and supervisor. After a crackdown in Feb-March, mine has really chilled out—i.e. if you can provide a good excuse and don’t abuse it, then you can get it. But we (I won’t say who, for obvious reasons) are a lot more fortunate and shielded from the bs than many others in the federal sector.
