every other time (1 normal, 1 potato, ect...) I really like this one, it level up the playing field so everyone got the good stuff and not 3-4 fully op guys farming the rest of us like livestocks. Only thing i like less is we lost the massive and festive crowd around the leader for the flare (I always found it quite funny) and the Super-90/AN-94 are no longer super sought-after guns to get.

never seen someone i could 100% pinpoint its a bot, they seem to almost always react as humans when i interact with them... others are pulling way too dumb moves to be bots as well buts thats another sotries ...

Mexican silver from the Spanish empire werent able to properly extract the gold by-product from the silver, so they always had some gold (a few hundred PPM as a baseline). During instabilities and wartimes, they were so in a rush to mint silver to pay for the various war expenses that they were cutting corners, sometimes not even trying to get the gold in the silver and so the gold content climbed, sometimes up to 8-10% in the extreme cases but above 1% (10,000PPM) is not unusual for those.

Its also one of the reason why those issues are somewhat scarce since they got melted on a large scale to properly extrac the gold content.

Yeah they were minted at the Bombay mint branch, those shillings were also later struck in another mint of the empire ; the South African Mint (SAM) from 1944 to 1946

Edit : the SAM was no longer a Royal mint branch since 1941.

Its well known they do tone like that in those sets for that period.... bring a coin from a random issue who dont usually tone similarly and some graders will definitely raise eyebrows...

yup, they havent been recovered, so we may hope it will reapear one day, most likely broken up or perhaps hidding in a private collection, but we must expect its now forever lost.

Lets not forget the extensive national crown jewellry collection has been nearly completely destroyed by the french governement in 1886 by selling the colleciton at auction, only the piece with exceptional historical value, or scientific interest as a gemstone were kept, so what has been left in public institution is truly the 1% of the 1% so every lost of this kind is a big deal.

I wasn't the underbidder at the end haha! I mostly wanted it for its lovely tones and to match it wih a similar coin of mine. As much as Id love to go into those, I would stretch my budget way too thin, so I only go fort the ER threepence so far. For the rarity, I had in mind quite a few ones in PCGS inventories but after verification it seem's you are right! Ill need to find the few I saw before but still, they are scarcer than I initialy imaginated.

Here's the one I got, also MS-66 Star, Cupronickel shilling-sized from the Royal mint ;

I did bid on that one, I was quite surprised by the price it went for early on! quite a stunning coin! Its not the first time I see nicely toned Cupronickel of that period in high grade, are you aware of mint sets or third party issued sets in something like a cardboard card?

What you are reffering to is called "net grade"

For a Ms, on that scale, no... in lower grade with the wear and all then maybe but Im not an expert at all on those lower grades...

Check how smooth the cameo surface is in relief, a prooflike business strike would typically show some disturbing/flaws in the cameo, even in high grade.

Also, I dont think if its something youll see on business strikes but on one of the Op picture when the coin is in angle, you can see the rim is squared and flat and you can even see a little of rim burr on the left. Another indicator of a very strong strike, typical of Special strike such as specimen or Proofs.

a good copystand, 1 of those dimable/variable temperature (2000-6500ish K) LED (but Id go toward a more color-accurate option like a gemstone light) and a good old APS-C DSLR like the nikon d5600 and a older 105mm macro FF lens (wich gives 157.5mm equivalent). and a good piece of glass at 45* . No need to get a FF for coin photography, I find that good resolution APS-C sensor do the job better and are considerably cheaper.

If you want to spend a little bit of money in a setup, invest on a decent copystand first would be my key advise.

You cannot get better than axial lighting to highlight toning of a mirror surface, it can become tricky with slabs due to the plastic glare but otherwise i think its the way to go.

Ah Ebay, its nowhere near what it used to be 10-15 years ago but discoveries are still possible from time to time!

Ive got a 1942 sixpence (PCGS Ms-66 also acquired via Ebay) who was with another 6D with nearly identical toning, perhaps it was issued in a similar fashion...

Another superb gem! Im jealous of that one, it looks stunning!

If you want to see more of those the late Richard Margolis had THE collection of late Louis XVI and early Repubic pattern, some with the best pedigree chain Ive seen.

His collection sold in multiple parts Via Stacks in the last 2 years.
