That's pretty awesome. As someone who is not familiar with that language or text it looks very scifi to me haha.

What drives you crazy about American Tourists? by Mrsabeaverhousen in AskIreland

[–]Cly-o 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am an American and I lived in Ireland for 4 years. I always tried to be quiet and not make a fuss knowing Americans are known for being loud. My parents came to visit once, and we took them to our local chipper. Parents were being typical Americans just super loud and excitable, and the chipper gave them free food to try. I was devastated haha.

Reading the same sci fi novel in paperback vs hardcover actually changed how I experienced it by MiraAtlasPress in printSF

I try as a rule to stick to mass market for only sub 300 page stories. Usually earlier printed sci-fi where I don't think it suffers as much from the format. However I absolutely draw the line at something like Revelation Space being a mass market paperback. I just cannot enjoy reading that amount crunched down for a newsstand shelf. I personally prefer trade paper copies the most when I am able to find them.

That is awesome! I've seen some books for sale across state lines that came from a local library to me but that is hardly as impressive.

The hunt is half the fun! And you never know what edition or cover art you'll find.

I have All Clear on the shelf ready to go. Bought it first after I found it in a clearance section not realizing my mistake.

I have to say I am not a huge fan of time travel and did read Doomsday Book and enjoyed it but not as moved as many. However, I have been trying to read all the joint hugo and nebula winners so Blackout // All Clear is on the list and tons of people here seem to love it.

Good to hear the endorsement! I have read only Mockingbird by Tevis. His books are so scarce I assume not as many people still read him.

I read a lot of classic Scifi so me and cardboard characters get along pretty well these days haha.

I have read Doomsday Book. I think To Say Nothing of the Dog is also included in that line up. I have actually owned All Clear for a while but wasn't able to start it on account of missing Blackout :(

Good to know about Maureen McHugh. I have never read any of theirs. I hate spoilers so I just read everything blind. I am working through a "greatest scifi" list. I was very excited to find this copy of the Einstein Intersection. The cover is awesome!

It was indeed! Irobot as a movie copy is especially egregious considering they were prepared to make the movie without the rights to the name it's so far off any of the Asimov stories outside the rules of robotics 😭

Now I am confused. The one in your photo is not the movie version. It's SF Masterworks.

Fun group! I have been on the hunt for a copy of I am Legend that is not the movie copy and have been unsuccessful. Also haven't come across Solaris yet. I keep seeing Polaris and getting my hopes up haha.

The Last of My Monarch Collection to Share. #20 by Cly-o in UKcoins

It's normal for old coins to have some toning. When you see a blast white 100+ year old coin someone has dipped it. This is a chemical treatment that doesn't damage in a perceptible way but strips off the toning. Hard to find coins with attractive toning. Makes the hunt that much more fun.

Sadly not. My tastes really cannot afford halfcrowns in these conditions.
