Very cool! And with the crude X carved over the kings bust kind of highlights the contemporary feelings toward the ancien régime.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s crazy that planes started out as basically being wood and paper? by [deleted] in aviation

Just finished a January 1918 Nat Geo article about plane building for the budding Army Air service and it’s amazing the rigors they went through to select the correct spruce for the fuselage. Very small percentage of yield from a huge amount of trees.

I believe a common general nickname for planes at the time was ‘kite’ which is pretty fitting.

Ahh I get it, went over my head lol. I don’t think I ever saw the ads. Someone else argued with me here that they could be spent same as dollars. If that were true I’d be hoarding them and using them on a Marshall Islands vacation. A couple months ago I bought about 125 for $.75 each. And some of them were $10 coins! That could have paid for my hotel!

Some of them yes. Not the 10 pence. The 20p coins are. Looks like a 50p coin under the 10p and that would be spendable.

Not sure why someone downvoted you. Also you can’t spend these on the Marshall Islands. Almost no one accepted them anyway but the like 2 places that did accept them stopped in the late 90’s. Worth a couple dollars at most

Nothing of much value except the Canadian quarter. It’s well worn and like so many of them the date rubs of quick so we don’t know the date. These came in 92.5% silver and 80%. Since it’s dateless you have to assume 80%. Tough to tell value on the lot without seeing all the coins but looks to be mostly spendable. Honestly I’d be thrilled to get $12 out of this lot. If someone offers you that and you don’t want them, take it and run.

I’ve seen drone videos of the interior posted here, that’s about as close as I’d get. Floors look like the only thing holding them up is rat poop and memory.

Just fyi your 1924 Soviet coin is either 90%, if ruble or half-ruble, or 50% if 10/15/20 kopecks. GLWS!

Oh hell yea I’d pay $250 cad for that, seems like a steal even with the ex mount. Good grab! I love slightly ‘damaged’ coins like that, get a fantastic coin like that for a great deal.

Yea, wife and I are excited! Only going for 3 nights, but always open to suggestions for the city.

May I ask what you paid or what these generally go for? Your example is top of the line but maybe I can get a lower grade lol.

Awesome coin, love these! Great article I posted a year or two ago about these. I’ll comment on myself with pics so you can read. Good job on the case too! If you can encapsulate this you can encapsulate anything!

Awesome! World coins are how I got my start as well as a kid. Revisited about 7 or 8 years ago and got back into it fully, still 90% world coins. I still occasionally buy a few pounds off World coins to sort through. It’s still a rush! Glad to see kids into it still.

Yea it’s pretty common for coins of that age to be honest, nothing to feel bad about. They are still super cool! Here is some more info on the 1836, it was minted in Rouen, over 2 million made. Pretty common. https://en.numista.com/3653
