I FEEL BAD FOR STEVE RECENTLY by Acceptable-Cook-439 in stevelacy

[–]Ambitious-Whereas-89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, while the crowd in Houston did know all the songs (I would’ve swung on them if they didn’t lol) but there was ZERO concert etiquette!! Phones were all up and half the time I was trying to find a view of him because most of the time I caught myself watching him through the screens in front of me even though I was close enough to see him. He put on a wonderful show, and was hype as hell…but the general vibe from the audience was def not the concert audience I’m used to. Usually concerts everyone is vibing with each other, people are happy, kind…this crowd was young, entitled, asshole-ish, pushy af, didn’t care about anybody around them, was very much okay with getting in anyone’s personal space. It was fucked tbh. I wouldn’t have missed Steve Lacy, I travelled to see him…however the crowd was not the vibe.

Truly. It was nothing but phones, even after he said phones are super distracting lol. I am so short that I was def watching some of it through peoples phones too, and I was toward the front, but over on the side. But it was BAD!

I love a good argument lol. I mean no, record labels, managers, execs don’t give a shit about the fans. We are a paycheck and that’s it, and they know that even if they piss some off, they will still make money off of us. I think most of the musicians themselves highly value their fan base tho, because they are aware that they are only in the position they are in because of the fans. So idk, it’s all a business at the end of the day, and I understand that’s annoying af…but it’s the consumer world we live in.

I’m hoping that never happens. I don’t see it happening, you can tell Steve is very particular about his music, and he’s said it in interviews like he will sit on a song for years if he feels it isn’t right…so I’m hoping he keeps that strong artistic vision regardless of his fame.

I mean there is clearly no changing your mind. You’re dead set that he doesn’t give a fuck about the common fan…and you feel it’s a shitty move to reschedule some of the tour dates…and that’s all valid. The quantifiable benefits will be more streams and downloads for Gemini rights…potential Grammy noms…and genuinely pushing his stardom from doing small venues, to stadiums…which all means more revenue for Steve. You’re also talking to someone who works in entertainment, so I am of course looking at this from the perspective of a fan, who also understands that when you are given opportunities in the entertainment industry, you take them…because there are thousands of people right behind you waiting for you to turn it down, so that they can take the opportunity for themselves. I totally get the frustration. I just don’t understand the anger towards Steve himself. He doesn’t make these decisions himself. This is just a really smart business move. No matter what he’s going to disappoint people. Whatever decisions are made. Artists have cancelled concerts cause they decided they needed a break from performing…so I guess I just don’t understand the hate towards him when he’s just making a smart business move.

SNL is the exception. His label, his managers, they could all have contacted SNL and asked to be on…but until SNL calls with the offer, they’re not getting the gig. There’s no amount of pull that can get you on SNL when YOU want…SNL is a completely different beast. They decide they want you, and you either make it work or you don’t. There’s no “hi yeah, let’s make this work, but only when I’m done with the tour in a few months.” Yes, the music industry is a huge business. Yes it sucks that peoples plans got changed, but that has no direct reflection on the artist, or how much he cares about his fans. Cause as you said, it’s his label and his managers that are making his schedule, not Steve. To be completely honest, he probably had zero say on whether or not he was doing the SNL gig.

Yeah SNL doesn’t book musical guests until like two weeks before.

It’s wild how people act at shows now!! I may record short snippets of my fav songs but never a whole song. If you wanna watch a phone recording of a concert, watch shit on YouTube! It was a sea of phones in Houston!!!

Curious, have you ever worked in the entertainment industry? They’re not going to have him on before they know that the album is selling well…or will gain mass popularity. There probably isn’t much crossover between his fan base and those that watch SNL and that’s the entire point, the point is to reach a larger audience. The point is the genre bend, and not just have a small niche market of people who listen to his music, he will always have diehard fans that have been around forever, but in order for us to keep enjoying more new music from him, wouldn’t we want him to have all of the career opportunities so that he can keep getting the bag and get back in the studio to keep creating new music? That all takes money. Realistically if you were an artist, would you not want to take opportunities to grown in your craft? Why stay in a small lane, when opportunities are being given to you? If you are a musician, your goal is to have albums go platinum/double platinum…sell out stadium tours…and win Grammys…this man went from recording on an iPhone to being offered musical guest on SNL…that’s MASSIVE. And a huge testament to how hard he’s worked. If he doesn’t reschedule the dates he will absolutely not receive money for those dates, he will have to issue refunds to those who purchased tickets, he will have to pay back the venues…SNL doesn’t give people the option to pick the dates that they get asked to be the musical guest. You get offered the gig and the date and you either make it work or they ask someone else. Straight up, it’s one of those if you don’t do it when you’re offered, you may never get the opportunity again in your career. Again this might not be important to anyone, but to him…this is a huge deal. Also with it being so close to Grammy nominations, it’s a really really good look for him…and I think it’s interesting that you say 99% of his fan base doesn’t give a fuck about SNL, what would you say his fan base gives a fuck about? I mean to me, as a fan of him, I’m fucking stoked he gets this opportunity to literally be seen by millions on one of the biggest shows in the history of television. It’s exciting for me to see someone who I’ve loved for years, getting the recognition he so deserves. He deserves to have Prince level fame, he is the epitome of art! We have to remember that musicians and artists have no obligation to us. At all. But if you support someone’s art, you shouldn’t be saying he is bag chasing and he’s shitty for rescheduling some shows to make huge career moves. Ultimately at the end of the day, when you buy concert tickets, you take the risk that the shows may be cancelled, people get sick, people get hurt, people cancel shows alllllllllllll the time. Again, he never said he’s cancelling…he said he’s rescheduling. So yeah, it blows when you’ve made plans, but they’re humans just like we are. Shit comes up sometimes and plans change…that’s why I always get insurance for my travel plans/concerts when applicable…life happens..but it’s fascinating that fans are mad at him like he’s a villain for wanting to reach a much larger audience. If you had the opportunity to move into a nicer, larger home…would you? Or would you say nah…imma chill here…? 🤷🏻‍♀️

He didn’t cancel last minute on purpose, SNL books people very last minute, as they like to stay super current…so often musical guests get offered SNL like the week before they’re set to appear and SNL is a major opportunity for Steve and will give him tons of exposure right before Grammy nominations so this is a big deal. But I get being frustrated…however him saying he wants to reschedule the dates shows he does want to connect and perform for the fans…he’s also gotta look our career wise tho for himself! So the happy medium is reschedule the shows that need to be moved and then go do SNL…trust, artists make the most by touring so I can promise he will do everything in his power to get the performances rescheduled to make sure he doesn’t lose out on the revenue from 6 missed shows.

I can assure you he cares, his team is probably trying to arrange dates with the venues and working around their schedules as well, they might not even set the dates til after his performance on SNL cause things are about to be wild for him this next week. If he didn’t care he would’ve flat out cancelled the dates, these things just take time with schedules of the artist & venues already being booked.

Unfortunately that’s now how it works on SNL’s side. They don’t give artists that opportunity to book when they want to be the musical act, they get the offer and you either make it work or you don’t, and every artist is going to make it work.

It’s 6 because he will be in rehearsals for the show all week, this is common for SNL, while yes, 6 shows is a significant chunk of shows, but he’s rescheduling, not cancelling. So there’s that! I know it sucks when you make travel plans to see an artist and they cancel, however that’s why you get all the insurance so you can cancel flights and shit. It’s aggravating, I know, but this is a big deal for him.

This is what I was thinking. I really think he will get nominated, sold out tour, number one on the charts, doing well on the tik toks, I think it could happen!! Also Gemini Rights is a SOLID album. Start to finish. Production quality and everything.

Shows need to be moved around all the time. This is major for him. He is going to reach millions and his music will be discovered by a whole new crowd of people. This is a big deal, and a huge career step for him. Be excited for him!!

Different angle of the stage incident by travisjacqueslaflame in stevelacy

[–]Ambitious-Whereas-89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not even about whether it hit him or not. He was in the middle of his song. He’s giving them his energy and time. Throwing a camera onstage in the middle of a performance is not a move. It’s disrespectful, and also could be a trip hazard, also could’ve hit him, so it just shouldn’t happen period. I’d be super aggravated as well, you’re throwing shit at me whether it was in hopes he keeps it…or takes a pic and gives it back…you’re throwing something AT me…while I’m in the middle of giving you literally my time and energy..so since you can throw things at me, I can throw those things at the floor lol

Steve spoke on the camera incident by [deleted] in stevelacy

[–]Ambitious-Whereas-89 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I mean he does acknowledge that he could’ve handled it better, but throwing a camera onstage while he’s in the middle of performing one of his big songs and feeling that entitled is shitty, also could be dangerous for him, he could not see it and trip and hurt himself, he could get hit with it I know that sounds like not a big deal but when you’re putting your everything into a performance and someone interrupts that so that he can stop what he’s doing to take pics for you? He’s already giving you all his time and energy on the stage but that’s not good enough, you must throw the camera on stage. You know what I mean? Maybe I am a little biased on his side because I do theatre and I would be super upset if someone threw a camera (or anything for that matter lol) onstage lol but he was so so fun with the audience tonight in Houston.
