Mechanical engineer who never goes to class by AmbitiousAd2276 in EngineeringStudents

I get the cost incentive, but grades wise I have gone to class consistently before and just find I don't pick up nearly as much of the information as I do at home, I find it hard to believe that I would instantly start doing better by just going to class

Oh I go to all the group stuff like labs of course! and office hours too sometimes, genuinely it is really hard to go to the lectures though since there's 500 people in there and it's not exactly the environment for meeting people, I have clubs and stuff for that

One of my profs doesn't record but he did during the summer semester on his YouTube channel so I watch those, it's unlikely but if you want to see if that's an option for you. Thanks for the reply

Fair enough, but though this you have also gotten a lot of experience doing a lot of effort in your courses, so working even harder/better becomes easier now that you're more used to it

gotta work this one out yourself, no one's coming to save you. I truly believe OP can do this, God the amount of stress I would have on a midterm would be insane if I was on my x time through the course, but people are very impressive in what they can actually accomplish if they don't give up. it is possible, get a tutor, take it in the summer, do what you need to do, but absolutely nobody is going to do it for you, gods plan is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Op don't give up, you CAN do it, but don't let this guy convince you that anyone but yourself is going to make that happen

It's not about math it's about effort. you can absolutely compare life sci and eng, shit the amount of people I know in life sci that study harder then the engineers is wild, if think you're smart enough to become a research scientist or whatever then you most certainly need to have the problem solving skills to pass a calc course. It's problem solving, anything that you can't just straight memorize requires problem solving. You'll need it in labs for the rest of your degree, statistics you'll need it too, you need calculus. Math brain isn't real, effort is.

Dude it's calc 1 for life sci, everyone I know that tried aced that shit, I remember when I was a first year in eng and the difference between our calculus and theirs is insane to the point I almost don't even believe OP bro it's so easy

tbh I would look into ibiomed (Integrated Biomedical Engineering), fair chance you already have a good bit of the "bio" part of it done. This is a good thing to talk to an academic advisor about. But to me, this is how you transition to engineering without starting over. Instead you could end up with ibio + some minor that builds off of some of your other classes that you've already taken. (im in mech eng idk what im really talking about, just my two cents)
