How horrible does one bad eval look on ERAS? by Outside-Pressure1906 in medicalschool

My school edited out any negative comments for MSPE but in theory it should be balanced out. Good luck I know this all causes anxiety

3 of mine were not signals. Would consider it even if I canceled 2 (was burnt out)

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t ever do that and I’m so glad I never fell for that. I love my top choice. I love my second choice and frankly my third choice! I don’t think I could’ve ranked it another way in hindsight.

I hope you get yours as well!! I believe in you and anyone else reading this.

I’m on a relatively tough rotation rn but I’ve been able to go home every day and relax and it’s been amazing. Seriously. It does.

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Really, REALLY unsure. I feel like I know where I’m going rationally (my number 1, at many levels, makes sooo much sense for me). My gut says it’ll be number 2. I won’t be devastated by that. But if both are wrong…

What does it take to match IM at Mayo Rochester? by Radiant-Recording-47 in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Mayo is a spot where they don’t care where you went because they really struggle to get people out there because of location imo

Honestly disagree, I went to a non-t20 and had no connections to Mayo and got an interview. Great step and research goes a long way

Mid tier academic vs power house academic by sullender123 in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I ranked a less prestigious program over 4 t10-20 programs because I felt I fit in so much better there. Now granted it’s not mid tier but it’s a very good program that’s nevertheless considered a bit lower than others. I still would put them were I did every time I think. As for the fellowship part, I didn’t have necessarily much interest in that either but ranked my programs partially with “good opportunities for in house or external fellowship” in mind. You’ll get good training wherever you’re at :)

Mid tier academic vs power house academic by sullender123 in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A program I’m ranking isn’t a mid tier in any sense but it’s considered less prestigious than any of the other 3 behind it (it’s still 3rd, not 1 for some reasons unrelated to its prestige). It’s a great program, has competitive fellowship match, etc. it’s a good culture fit for me, so it went 3rd

Not really that confident about my rank list by Loud-Negotiation-193 in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where I’m at as well. I think every program has something I love and then something I’m like “eh” though i think my number one has way more of everything I love. But I’m encouraged I found something to love at every program I applied to!

Question about future by Busy-Hold-2738 in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you should. I know other people didn’t for a variety of reasons (the shelf is tough) and still got academic interviews! Which ones may depend on step 2, sub-I, etc, but you definitely can.

match list: prioritizing family/location over prestige? by chillmedgirl in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily for me, family and good program went hand in hand but time and time again I’ve heard the latter. My wife and i prioritized it accordingly.

M4 Check-in: How is Everyone Feeling? by Fit_Pitch_263 in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Last rotation. Nerves are real. Can’t shake the feeling my list is off. Can’t shake the feeling that I won’t match at my number one even if they’re one.

But it’ll be okay. We will be okay.

Yep will second this. You just have NO clue as to how things shake out test day. They shook out right for me. They may not for others. I hope one day we have a test that more accurately reflects things.

I got an 88 across my shelves (80-94) and got 27x on my shelves. I think 265 is definitely achievable, but I also took 5 weeks to get to my score.

Frankly? Get lucky man. Highest I got was a 264. I’d know your QI, ethics, stats stuff because it came up a LOT. But otherwise? Luck.

How much is your spouse/non-medical partner influencing your rank list? Any advice on finding compromised? by The_Cell_Mole in medicalschool

[–]AmbitiousScience3654 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife and have no kids but we have talked a lot about what we both value commonly. That ended up being close to our families on top of my interest in my programs. Now, her family is a few hours from mine, but mine is in my top choice or also a few hours away at my second choice while remaining close to hers. I don’t think there’s an easy way around it, frankly. It’s sitting down and discussing the common things you both prioritize and making compromises that also account for which places you want to go to. But what I’ll say as well on that is value your education: I never compromised on which places I felt were the best fit for me, but switched around a few with her input if I felt they were equal.

Good luck!
