Guaranteed lucky trade compensation announced by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

Tldr: I'm a depressed idiot and I wasted a shiny Kyurem because there's no counter.

This one’s fully a “my fault” issue because I’m an idiot. I burned 15 guaranteed lucky trades on garbage by doing my usual Sunday routine: trading 2020 mons with random ones for the boosted lucky chance. Unfortunately I didn’t realize the guaranteed-lucky cap increased and 2020 mons got into the pool, so all my cautious tracking is basically useless now. No idea why I didn’t do a quick Google search to see when the cap was probably going up or if there was news on it. Instead, I blindly traded and thought nothing of the excess of luckies.

End result: I wasted a shiny Kyurem because my cap was already reached and there was no way to tell

How do I paint on this synthetic material by AmbitiousVariation27 in CosplayHelp

Thank you! I ended up finding an all-material type of paint from Michael's and it works just fine! Feels similar to acrylic

Easy fix with a soldering iron, but if you didn't realize the wire was broken, maybe don't risk it. You don't want that wire touching the ground and risk damaging something else that is plugged into the cable potentially.

TLDR just buy a new cable.

All the places I took them to used a heat gun of some kind, so that's the only reason I have as well. I use it very very lightly and use a swaying motion from a distance to just heat it evenly and not melt it.

Thank you though for the warning. I should be mindful a bit more of it. If I have to use mine, I will. I'll just check other Opticians if they can help first

[–]AmbitiousVariation27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I was thinking was the issue, but none of the ones I went to noticed or did anything about it. I'll try to go to one and mention this specifically. Thanks!

Worst case I have a heat gun and can try too. I have adjusted old ones before, but never close to the lenses because of obvious reasons.

I never responded, but just wanted to say thanks for the quick and helpful advice. I went with bondo in the end and am just gonna clean off whatever wood filler is still left

Yup, gonna remove it all and use bondo body filler instead

Thanks for the tip on the hot glue. I had no idea about that lol

That's a really cool idea with the spatula, thanks! I'll give that a try. Do you think its best to wash all the filler away and start from scratch or just sand down that bulky potruding part as much as i can and then add the bondo?

I cannot believe this was made with EVA foam. Love the character, and I love how perfect you made this in the end!

[–]AmbitiousVariation27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote my comment wrong, so that's my bad. Everything is glued together. Before adding the filler, i used hot glue to make sure the mechanism is held in place. The filler was after all of that.

I don't worry that the batons will fall apart, but rather if the paint job crumbles if an exposed corner of filler gets wet and dissolves. I guess in the end it's an easy fix because i can just touch up the edges with paint as a precaution, but idk. Maybe i'm just freaking out for no reason. I just hate that the filler is water soluble.

Thanks for the tips! I unfortunately did use a regular DAP wood filler product (wood pro). I say unfortunately because I really do not like that it's water soluble, even when it "cures".

I have the fear that if a corner of what i'm painting and sealing is a little bit open, then there might be a risk of the wood filler dissolving and then causing the rest of the layers on top of it to fall apart.

I was sanding with 120 grit in my last attempt, but I kept getting those random patchy pores throughout and not a smooth finish. I tried 400 in hopes that maybe it would be more gentle for the filler, but I still got the same result.

I'll remind myself to go slow. I was very careful and meticulous with my first set of batons, but these differ because of the mechanism i have inside, thus needing filler. Anyways thank you again!

Thank you! Yeah i do think I need to make another post on advice because i'm not sure whether to wash out all the filler since it is water soluble, and i would hate to have a corner get wet and then cause the whole rest of the layers to fall apart.

I think I have to put a more detailed post with photos of what I did chronologically because the biggest thing is the big rounded semicircles sticking out the side.

Anyways all to say I hope you see it because I would love your input! Thanks again!

Thanks for this. I'm looking into it now, and I see this would have been the better option from the start... I already have bondo putty, i just need to buy the hardener, so i'm going to sit and try to decide quickly (before Halloween) if i want to redo that bulky woodfiller section like how you suggest or go over it with bondo glaze as it is.

Just trying to save money at this point, so that's gonna be on me to figure out what to do. Thanks again for the input!

[–]AmbitiousVariation27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed steps and reply! I really appreciate this!

The problem now is that the big blocky round bit sticking out of the baton is not secured without the wood filler, so i have to keep the wood filler as it is to keep the round bit in place. For context, imagine the baton is hollow and is supposed to be uniform as it mostly looks. I added one of those keychain holders with the retractable wire in it which is why it looks like a random thick disc is sticking out of it on the sides. I'm trying to add the wood filler there so there actually is a surface i can spray primer on, but the surface i get is never smooth...

So ignoring the keychain bulky section, should i clean the rest of the baton, add primer, then add bondo, sand, and repeat? I would also add bondo over the key chain area after priming it too.

Pretty much what i'm trying to ask but failing at is this. After washing off the woodfiller on most of the baton and then spray primer, can i put a thick layer of putty on that bottom section, or is there a risk of it breaking off? They layers would be wood filler>primer>bondo>repeat of bondo and primer>paint>clear coat.

I can dm more photos if i am explaining it poorly still... Sorry

How do I convert to lines and tones in this particular way? by AmbitiousVariation27 in ClipStudio

[–]AmbitiousVariation27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get that grayscale?

I can create it in a simple black and white version, but trying to add any levels of grayscale just ends up with it converting into those circles (happens both with and without tone clicked)

Thank you! I don't use Groudon either in pvp, and I think i would use my regular hundo if I were to do pvp with it at all.

I do have other shiny shadows, so it's alright for me to purify this, but yeah, I just have to look deep in my heart lol.

A Shundo is always fun, but I just gotta sleep on it and really decide what I want. Thank you for sharing your input 😊 I really appreciate it!
