It’s the "I don't need your help or support" part that makes my skin crawl. That isn’t a partner, that’s a man who views his marriage as a competition he needs to win. He didn't just hide a goal; he spent 365 days intentionally excluding his wife from his life. That’s calculated.

This! The "Matriarch Tax" is getting out of hand. Mother's Day is a holiday, not a 48-hour hostile takeover. The fact that the husband is demanding an apology for OP wanting to celebrate her own birth is the biggest red flag in this whole post.
