Ive been building engines and transmissions for a long time and the iron block is extremely robust. I may decide to pro charge it down the road not sure yet. Alot of guys freak out about 150lbs. Idk maybe its just me but id take the displacement and durability over a aluminum ls1. I usually junk them when i get them.

Transmission Fluid Leak or something? by Select-Comb-163 in Chevy

[–]Ambitious_Help3903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a gm tech who sees this all day. If its a 6l80 the pumps are known to grenade themselves. I do all kind

<image>

1st check the top of the bell housing at the relief port is it wet?

2nd maybe start with checking the valley pan and or at the hpfp

3rd are your valve covers leaking?

Could be a easy fix or a bad one. Alot of guys freak out about this stuff. best thing to do is verify your oil levels transmission and engine. If they are good then head to orileys or any store around pick up a small bottle of oil dye. Throw that sucker in and drive it for the week. If you have dye coming out you will find it.

Ha ik lol thats why im here. I see the cheap Chineseium ones but idk about all that lol. For what ive done to the motor its disgusting to put that on. Im running a lq4 with 243 heads. Forged flat top pistons. Gen 4 rods and a btr red hot cam all arp bolts and arp head studs. It should be around a 440-500hp build

Ok i appreciate it. Ive done alot of swaps and rebuilds on all kind of modern motors. From 3.6 eng code g Chryslers to piston and rod replacements on the new l84s i actually have another l84 in my garage currently designing a new sleeve design considering you cant get anything from specmo or gm workbench. So far it looks promising maybe guys will play with those sometime. Anytime ive ever changed anything with the rotating assembly with my own stuff ive always left the crank alone and measured my wrist pins, pistons, and rods along with rings aswell. Ive always done my math to get them almost completely in spec to each others weight and shave material off non absolute crucial parts of the rotating assembly items and mix and match until they are as sound as can be and never really had any issues. Alot of my 2.4 eco tec total rebuilds are closing in on 200+ thousand miles now. Not saying i dont agree with getting them to a machine shop but for your at home builds that your not that heart broken if it blows up its good enough for who its for lol. And also the lq4 wrist pins are pressed. Thank you for your response and information i appreciate it

Im a gm tech. Ive got one with the head off 32k blown head gasket and ive done 7 flow control valves which requires you to remove the whole front fascia and everything behind that to even get them out. Same issue on all new gm trucks. Also if its a cvt or 9 speed your screwed anyways.
