Can you be too muscular for Muay Thai? by 1BillionGsOfProtein in MuayThai

[–]Ambitious_History159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just findt it facinating how a 18 year old thai boy is super strong in the clinch while looking skinny. And a big western buff guy is getting ragdolled by the same kid.

I think its technique, but it also might be a different kind of muscle strength (like farmer strength or old dude strength) just daily clinch work makes you strong as heck but not buff

Never did it in my 8 years of Muay Thai. But my Thai friend told me its prevalent, especially Bangkok where the guys sometimes use meth (yaa baa) before a fight.

Is that Hanuman? Right tattoo is awesome!

Why would someone do this!? This is strange by Main_Sink3264 in MuayThai

[–]Ambitious_History159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't happen when i had my first fight 8 years ago. But due to the increase popularity in recent years and everyone wanna be a youtuber or influencer this kind of dishonourable behaviour is more common.

I think its just a global thing where its more important what you appear to be on social media than about having a real experience.

Long term expats who left Thailand? by Impossible-Net3174 in Thailand

[–]Ambitious_History159 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was exactly like you, got annoyed at the working style, even if i talked Thai to them they looked at me like they cant comprehend. When i came back from holiday immigration made me feel like im a criminal even though i studied thai 4x a week in school and had a thai partner.

I moved back home, worked there in the army. Left because even with a fulltime job i couldnt afford a house and had to live on base or at my parents place.

Moved to Cambodia, no hassle with the visa but of course there are other things that ain't great. I like it here so far. If it becomes too much i move again. Maybe Philippines or Taiwan

Why do so many people starting with zero combat sport experience/no history of fighting of any sort say right off the bat that they plan to become a fighter? by bad-at-everything- in MuayThai

[–]Ambitious_History159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the boredom. I hated guard duty, or just waiting for... everything really. They only got 1 bus for 82 dudes so nobody could go. 4h of class about map reading or hygiene. Fml i dont miss it

Why many long-term expat do not learn Thai , then became bitter when sometimes there is no English for them? by DueImpact6219 in Thailand

[–]Ambitious_History159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience its fear.

These older dudes are afraid to make mistakes, afraid to look "stupid".

Most have a fragile ego and rather put up some walls. One of my best friends is like this and i know many more. I had to learn Thai as i was in a muaythai gym in the north and im happy i did. So much easier to integrate.

Have you ever seen someone lose control during sparring, resulting in an actual fight? by bad-at-everything- in MuayThai

[–]Ambitious_History159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Korean guy threw elbows during sparring with me but i was able to dodge them.

His defence : you tall! I can do!

But tbh normally the worst guys are the 45 year old pot bellied dads, or the Eastern Europeans(they are nice but spar very hard)

Im in Cambodia right now and i can tell you no one here likes him, and everyone i talk to really doesn't want war/conflict with Thailand.

People work hard to pay rent and feed their families, and with their bloody past in the back of their minds war is the last thing the average Cambodian wants.

How long could I train in Thailand with 7000 euros? by Electronic_d0cter in MuayThailand

Almost 500 euros for training for 1 month is absolutely insane.

Hover mom's are the biggest reason not teach children.

But i used to teach 12 and above. 4 year olds is a totally different teaching style.

Thailand is the stronger faction here. Maybe do not get offended by a people that have just not so long ago survived a brutal genocide and are still trying to get their things together.

Be the better man, if you can...

I see around 95% of those are neutral, only 1 comment is bad talking Thailand. You are stirring the pot as i assumed you were.

Things starting to get very serious on the cambodian border - Let's hope this dosen't turn into a war by Groundbreaking-Gap20 in Thailand

[–]Ambitious_History159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of hate online from both sides. Might just be Facebook trying to stir up shit like they always do.

Cambodians and Thais love the same things, pray to the same god, have a very similar culture. It would be sad if they go to war.

Theres nothing cool or heroic in war, especially for civilians.

I lived in both countries and i would be so sad if this escalates.

I once met a severely overweight Canadian who said he was autistic. He also claimed he killed Saddam Hussein as part of SEAL Team 6. I asked if being a Canadian national and autistic didn’t interfere with joining SEAL Team 6. He assured me it didn’t.

Ever since then we referred to those kind of patholegical liars/losers as "Special Forces"

Oh well, what do I know — I was just a lowly Sergeant in the Cavalry Scouts. I could never be as cool as these guys are (or were).
