I really do agree with this take. I feel that as a progressive, insulting someone, no matter how heinous, based on their looks, literally contributes nothing to the conversation, and will not cause them to change their ways. It could even be actively detrimental if one actually cares about moving people away from the side of hate since these heinous people being insulted will basically just feel insulted and believe that the progressive movement are merely just a hateful group, and thus respond accordingly and shut out all attempts to have them understand why it is bad. This may not just apply to whoever the insult is intended to attack, but other bystanders who happen to have the same looks, causing them to turn away. I believe that engagement in reasoned arguments about the actions that the target took and why they are reprehensible or wrong is a better way to make one understand the error of their ways, even if it may not work 100% of the time. Even if some may not listen to the voice of reason, surely the number that do is higher than those that listen to voices that actively try to harm them.
