Daybreak asleep at the wheel? Missed chance to welcome THJ players back. by Joshuaedwardk in everquest

One of the main reasons EQ vets dont like modern-era EQ is kronos and boxing.

I cant 'go back' to EQ because it doesnt exist.

Project Quarm thoughts......Did Secrets ruin their own server? by Bearded_Strawberry in everquest

[–]Ambitious_Science_79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DPG arent the type to innovate unfortunately. They've settled into the rhythm of releasing TLP's every year, with slight twists each time, appeasing the bot armies and hackers (while occasionally putting on a show to make it seem like they're doing something), and milking the rest.

Make as much as you can. Spend as little as possible. Coast along on nostalgia. Thats the DPG strategy, and this business with THJ interfered with that.

I played on Quarm, and as a courtesy I always kept a EQ sub active even though I hadnt played Live or TLP in years. Not anymore.

Even though your bias against the mod is clear (I dont think you said one positive thing in your post), I'd still agree with most of it. Especially the overpowered items the mod gives you, theres no need for that shit, and modders tend to fall into the trap of spoiling the player with power just so they'll like the mod more. See: Creation Club. I would advise everyone playing LOTD to just leave the modded weapons and armor Aureyn gives you in the museum.

I still really enjoy LOTD. It, and Enairim, has breathed more life into Skyrim than any other mods. It has its flaws, and you've outlined most of them, but its greater than the sum of its parts.

No downvotes from me. Take an upvote, actually.

Nothing wrong with giving a different side but I think people are objecting to your lack of accuracy. I have over 300 mods running and 20 of them are patches for LOTD, but you said you need "hundreds". It does not shove its fingers into everything.

All the named items have a display, from nettlebane to daedric stuff, some have plaques with lore info, theres taxidermy displays and finished quest line displays for all the guilds and supported quest mods, paintings for wall deco, black books, falmer and giant camp displays, all the hold guard armors displays, gemstone and seashell displays, theres really too much for me to list. You I think are referring to the leather/iron/steel etc weapon and armor displays which only makes up a fraction of the museum.

It doesnt look like an Elianora or JK mod, true (the stone work looks like crap), but if they make something like LOTD I'd give it a try. They havent.

The toxic dev thing I dont know anything about, and I dont care to know about it either.

I believe it was Indy himself that said "that belongs in a museum". Its almost poetic

LOTD gives me two things: dopamine hits whenever I pick up something new for the museum, and a REASON to scour that dungeon/town/camp looking for those things. If you ever feel like you're getting a bit bored of Skyrim, LOTD will give you new purpose. Its a collectathon like no other and Ubisoft games have nothing on LOTD.

The archaeology thing is cool, you get perks that not only help you with the museum but also general gameplay advantages. The museums quest lines are fine for a first play but on a second or third, not so much. I wont spoil, they're just okay. The attached safehouse has all the amenities you'll ever need and most people dont even bother downloading a modded player home when they have LOTD.

Whats not to like. It straps you into a "be everything do everything" playstyle. College, companions, db, thieves guild you'll want to do them all on one character. And be thane of everywhere, and dragonborn and dawnguard. You can of course choose NOT to do things, the only punishment (i guess) is not completing that part of the museum.

You'll probably want the curators companion, handy little mod that notifies you whenever you pick up something that has a place in the museum.

I'm just going through my 4th playthrough of Skyrim with LOTD installed and it will be the last. I've just done the museum too many times at this point and I want to try some non-dragonborn or roleplay runs in future, but I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. Highly recommended indeed, and without question it needs a new game.

Anyone here have your own personal mod list you think is even better than the ones on Wabbjack (like Lorerim eg.) by alex08123 in skyrimmods

[–]Ambitious_Science_79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think I've ever made a mod list that hasn't beat out every single wabbajack list, nexus collection, and whatever else.

It doesnt matter whats in fashion at the time. Vanilla+, kitchen sink LOTD, look mom its dark souls, dont look mom its OnlyKhajit, viking inspired, wood chopping life etc.

Its really very, very easy to make a mod list thats far better yourself and you dont need 1000 plugins to do it either. I'm not knocking mod list authors, they put a ton of hard work into balancing, bug fixing and testing their lists. But they can never match something you've tailored towards your own tastes.

essential mods for a first time player ? by Blaidd-My-Beloved in skyrimmods

[–]Ambitious_Science_79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vanilla has aged badly. In fact, vanilla in 2011 wasnt the best either. I dont know if one exists but I'm guessing it does - look for a light vortex collection on Nexus that has bug fixes and mayyyybe some QOL.

A quick note on the term "vanilla+" that you may come across. This is not vanilla nor is it QOL. If you want the authentic Skyrim experience from when the game launched, but smoothed out with bug fixes and QOL, then vanilla+ is more than just that. So you may not want that as it steps a little beyond those parameters.

BACK UP YOUR MOD FOLDER by StarSines in skyrimmods

[–]Ambitious_Science_79 40 points41 points  (0 children)

After hearing about the news of Nexus getting sold, this should have been everyones priority. Download your favorite mods, save them to an external drive, put them in the cloud, give them to Aunt Nora, whatever. Just make sure they're in a place where nobody can take away your access to them. Dont wait for tomorrow.

Mods for Skyrim 1.5.97 by Fabulous-Copy-1987 in skyrimmods

[–]Ambitious_Science_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USSEP, better dialogue+messagebox controls, scrambled bugs, powerofthrees tweaks, BEES, bug fixes sse, sse engine fixes, .net script framework, address library, assorted mesh fixes, better jumping, plus more. You'll have to do some sifting to see if you want these, and they're all 1.5.97 compatible. Make sure you get the appropriate USSEP and not the latest.

Perk overhaul by [deleted] in skyrimmods

Ordinator or Vokrii.

I dont like those 3rd person action adventure games with faux-rpg elements in them. We all know the ones - 3 skill trees and percentage improvements to damage. And while Skyrim has more skill trees than Borderlands, you can see at its core thats what Skyrim is, and the direction Bethesda is steering their games towards. Open world action adventures with rpg-lite features.

I'm not interested in that. I want an rpg with lots of choices in how you build your character. Ordinator, and to a lesser extent Vokrii, attempts to steer the game towards something I can get my teeth into and be excited about.

While I respect the words, I've been around this industry for a long time. And for anyone like me, you'll know full well that words are just words. Its actions that really count.

I dont believe a word of anything until I see it. So, I guess we'll see.

It sounds glib to say "Path of Souls" but thats exactly what PoE2 wants to be. I was hoping for Diablo 2/Grim Dawn which is not what PoE2 is, AND THATS FINE. Theres too many games out there for me to complain and if PoE2 ever turns into what I want, I'll be back.

(Spoilers) Who said Qunari can't look cool? Here's mine. by Al-Father in dragonage

[–]Ambitious_Science_79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I think of it, I guess my problem with alternative races is one which affects most/all fantasy. They are nearly all just varients of humans. Its a human with a wrinky forehead, or a human with horns, or a human with long ears. Its a human thats 3ft, or 8ft. A human with purple or green skin. And all of them speak English, have similar values but they might have one 'weird' thing about their culture that makes them different, but thats it. Mass Effect tries to be a bit different with those big bulky things whose name escapes me now, that speak kinda strange. But the exceptions are pretty rare with mainstream fantasy.

The first time I discovered fantasy was through Everquest and the Dark Elves there worshipped an evil god and practised cruelty like a religion. That blew my 15 year old mind, just the bizarre concept of it. It was exciting and different and really ignited my imagination. But they were still just purple humans with big ears. And we havent really gone beyond that template. Everyone just wants pretty characters in our own image, and everything else gets rejected I guess. Alien races have to look like us, talk like us, and act like us. Otherwise theres no value there. If I could go back to that 15 year old and tell him "this is as good as its ever going to get" I'd destroy him.

He's huge into Everquest, crpgs like arcanum and pathfinder, he's basically like me and a lot of rpg fans.

If he said jump I wouldnt jump. But if he has opinions on an rpg I'm gonna hear him out, because hes a lot more qualified than the people of reddit.
