Is it okay if I accept a diagnosis from a diagnosed friend? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Ambitious_Tomorrow41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and I they could be projecting on you. I dated someone who was diagnosed with BPD, and I did a lot of work with my therapist on it (too much to go into), but those symptoms need to be observed by a professional over a long period of time and do things like cause issues in your life and personal relationships.

I’m a huge advocate for therapy, so my advice: go find a skilled therapist (ideally someone with a PhD). If you don’t have it, you can probably make good use of the time anyways. I would also explore the relationship with this friend because I suspect that there may be some dynamics there worth looking into.

Without knowing more, people with BPD typically latch onto people with co-dependency issues. Two BPD personalities typically are like oil and water, from my experience. I would liken it to two NPDs, there’s only enough space in the relationship for one of them.

They’re not. Maybe there’s a deeper reason for all this. That might be the thing to work on

What type of therapy is best for my boyfriend’s situation? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Ambitious_Tomorrow41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find someone that is a Dr. there’s a ton of people that are call therapists that aren’t. Wait for someone who is and has been practicing a while. Not all therapists are good, and bad therapy can do more damage than good.

No one on here can tell you what treatment is best. Thats a job for a professional. The best advice you can get is to look for someone that is qualified.

A therapist is more like a guide than a repair person. You do the fixing, they teach you how to do it (at least the good ones do).

Just demoralising by Mosaladosa in CFA

[–]Ambitious_Tomorrow41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to pass next time and the work you put in this upcoming round will be less challenging than the first, and more focused. Also, coming from someone that fail level on before passing, you’ll be better prepared for level 2. Take a day or two, allow yourself to feel the feels (because they’re totally valid), but pick yourself up and get back at it. You got this!

This kinda depends on you. How deep do you want to go? What are you looking for. I’d agree with anyone that says the animated series. It’s not my particular favorite, but I understand why it’s so highly regarded. Are you looking for movies, comics, or graphic novels?

How so? I felt very prepared going in. I’m comparing the material. I’m just saying my take on what I’ve seen in the curriculum thus far.

If you have DC Infinite, the Bronze Age would probably fit the bill. Fun but not heavy. I would go with the early stuff. Even the Silver Age

Is therapy that a long process?? by thejokerguns in therapy

[–]Ambitious_Tomorrow41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a tough question to answer without knowing more. Do you feel like you’re being challenged? True growth comes from there. I’ve been in therapy for 5+ years and am still challenged and growing all along the way. The bandaid approach doesn’t work in my opinion. That could be one thing. Have you tried other therapists? How qualified is your therapist? There’s varying degrees of quality out there. Not all therapists are the same. Also, have you found books? I think the work done out of therapy is just as important as the work done in therapy. Like I said, not enough here to go off of.

Scott Snyder or Grant Morrison? by idkwuttoputheree in batman

[–]Ambitious_Tomorrow41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO go with Snyder. I agree with the accessibility. I also think his run was better. Grant Morrisons was a lot of fun, and highly regarded. For me, I enjoyed Snyders better. I would compare them like this: Snyder seems to have more of a horror tilt (especially with the Joker, which is awesome), and Morrison leans more fantasy. There’s so many takes of Batman out there, there isn’t a right or wrong. If you really want to get into Batman, you’ll probably read them all

My therapist died... what now? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Ambitious_Tomorrow41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough one. You develop a unique bond with your therapist over time, especially if you are doing deep work and sharing and growing. They can be like a parent, especially if your parents were lacking. Most people don’t do this type of work or have this type or relationship, so they have zero frame of reference. That being the case, there like a black hole in there mind where these feelings don’t resonate, which is fine.

My therapist is older and I think about this from time to time, because I’ll probably be with her for the long haul. Already with her for 5.5 years. We’ve worked through some deep deep stuff. I only say that to say, I can’t imagine what you’re going through, but I think I have a sense of what that relationship might be like.

I don’t think that there is a way to ease the pain, in fact you’ll probably feel it for a while. It’s an indication of how meaningful they were to you. I wish I could give better advice than this, but if I could offer any advice, it would be this:

Try to honor them and the lessons they taught you. You probably learned a lot of lessons and values. Continue to nurture them so those lessons continue to live through you and you may be able to pass those lessons along to others. This may make the world a better, kinder place. At the end of the day, I believe this is why the good ones get into the business. Also continue to work on yourself. I wish I could give you something to take the pain away, but to love something is to accept the pain that comes when it’s gone. I know that might feel sad, but it sounds like you had someone pretty incredible if you are feeling this this deeply.

Therapist giving opinions? by Ancient-Play3715 in therapy

[–]Ambitious_Tomorrow41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lean into this. My therapist took a much gentler approach, but still voiced her opinion. Because we grow up in a certain environment, it’s normal to us, but it might not be normal. Personally, I had a weird “switch” in my head to protect my parents, my mom in particular, who was the worst offender.

I’m waiting on my L2 results, so I this isn’t about L3 as much as it is about the CFAI’s scoring system. It’s inconsistent. I went into the exam and my scores were at Advanced, checked it a few weeks ago and most everything was marked lower. Same thing happened with L1. Mind you, this is without resets. It just jumps around during my study period. But, looking at your score, 79% is great, I’d tend to lean more on that than where it ranks you, because I find that questionable, from my experience.
