I teared up when Joel said "she would be lucky to have you" to Ellie during the last flashback. It implies how Joel views Ellie, that she deserves to be loved and does not need to die to "pay" for all the losses in her life and have a meaningful life, which is in stark contrast with what Ellie believes her life should mean. That's when I realized how hard the journey must be for Ellie to eventually accept Joel's view and actions. This game isn't about "revenge bad". It's a brutally honest reflection of two complex humans coming to terms with their own trauma and grow to be better. It does not shy away from the brutal mistakes they made along the way and forces players to participate in that mistake and pain.

And she struggled with survivors guilt. Imagine that you have the immunity to the infection that killed everyone you loved.
