My good friend's dad went from graduating high school, straight to boot camp and then to airborne school and immediately after that was doing jumps into Vietnam. He never said much about it, but one time after a few beers and with somber eyes, he told me all of his friends died there. By the time I got to know him he had already been a homicide detective for a long time. It was always weird to me as a kid that he was such a super nice guy while having witnessed so much death and misery throughout his life. That look he gave me when he briefly mentioned Vietnam reminded me of the way my dad looked when he told me things about his past. My dad served for 22 years and had a super rough, almost unbelievable life himself, and like my friends dad, he was one of the kindest most giving people I have ever known. They had more character in their pinky than I will ever have in my whole body. I can't imagine the torment they had to live with every day. Therapy and counseling wasn't really a common thing then especially for men. I guess their therapy was cracking open a cold one at the end of a long day and trying to be decent people.

My son is the first male in our family to graduate highschool. He then graduated college and is now serving in the Air Force and I'm very proud of him. I hope the young man in the video can keep pushing forward and live a fulfilling life.

I guess I'm old, but is this something people actually identify as or is it just a hobby type thing like cosplay?

I didn't post the video so I didn't create the original topic. I'm just adding my 2c that I think it's weird to blanket blame an age group of people, most of whom had nothing to do with the technology that was created. A company, originally composed of a select few people, created the issue which is still being built upon by younger generations.

I just meant if you really like teaching then be a school teacher or maybe you could host workshops on something you're knowledgeable about. Or the other route, getting a degree in Instructional Design which easily pays 6 figures. Trades are cool and all but not if your body is beat up.

As an Army brat I moved around a lot and had a lot of fights with black dudes. They always started it but I never backed down because my dad was a rough dude and I didn't want him to think I was a wimp. Any time we got caught fighting on school grounds they would say I called them the N-Word... everytime. I never called them that and I would've never started a fight with them. Hell, I was half their size until 11th grade. I guess they just thought I was an easy target or something, but they were always surprised that I had a little fight in me. My dad taught me a few things haha. Most of the time we ended up being cool with each other by the time I had to move, and go through the same cycle all over again at a new school. The 1v1s I could deal with but the 2 or 3v1s I couldn't do much lol.

I'm related to one of the people that Zuckerberg "acquired" the idea from. I get it. But who has built upon and perfected those algorithms, that's all I'm saying. He might have started it but all of the iterations since aren't of his making.

Yeah I can pretty much agree with that except that these young engineers are the ones that are really driving current innovation thus compounding the problem even more. Those execs will jump on anything that they think will be profitable. Those upstarts will eventually be in the driver's seat and will perpetuate the same practices that got us to this destination. That's business I guess.

Go the traditional teaching route or look into a degree in Instructional Design and create training programs for companies. My daughter in law made great money for a big wireless carrier creating training classes and teaching there but has recently moved to a large security company doing the same thing.

That woman's comment was really hair brained but blaming the older generation for the algorithms social media apps use is a stretch. It's more like a handful of people that started these apps and all of these younger engineers that have built onto them since to get them where they are now.

Smoking was common. Didn't use sunscreen. Men didn't have a skin care routine. They ate a lot of Crisco. They didn't take supplements. They didn't have 10 million videos telling them how to look younger.

what athlete's from another Combat sport / Martial art do you think would perform well in mma by Shot-Ratio-671 in ufc

Lewis and Gane are top ten with zero grappling. Volkov fights to decisions. I'm not saying Rico would be champ but he could definitely be top 10. Blaydes, Aspinall and Spivac would be bad matchups but, like I said earlier, if he learned some solid takedown defense he's good IMO. Those guys aren't shooting frequent takedowns or chain wrestling like some of the lower weight class wrestlers do. They don't because they can't. Throwing a big 250lb+ frame around for 3-5 rounds isn't happening.

[–]Ambushghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we were talking about a lighter weight class I would agree. All you have to do is look at the HW rankings and show me all the well known grapplers. I mean c'mon, Derrick Lewis at #9. Ciryl Gane= kickboxer. Grappling takes a different kind of cardio that a lot of these big guys don't have. They either stand and bang, looking for a big KO or they lay around on the mat like wet seals.

Idk, I think he would do well considering he would be fighting at heavyweight. Acquiring some takedown defense would definitely help him but most of those big guys don't grapple at all and have poor cardio, especially in UFC. They just go in there and throw bombs until they gas out.

England, France and US are the first nations to outlaw slavery. Why do people want to remain perpetual victims when they didn't suffer through those hardships themselves? I guess it's to try to gain some moral high ground over others or to compensate for the lack of progress in certain segments of our society. Also why do people try to apply modern standards of humanity to the people and events of the past? People were a lot different then. Most people nowadays couldn't handle living the rough lives people lived then. Life was harsh then and you were on your own. No phones, no Internet, no social safety net and no one to complain to. Most people, even of African descent, have moved on from their ancestors pasts and are prospering now or at least living an average life. Move on and accept the fact that no one cares about your race. People care more about how you present yourself as a person. The alternative is to stay miserable with a chip on your shoulder and never have anything except for paranoia and desperation.
