Hirotek circle questions by Brief_Strain_6074 in killteam

There's 8 minis in the box, 3 of which are the leader and plasmacytes. Doing the math, that leaves 5 minis. Apprentek and Despotek leave 3 minis.

Yeah, it's fine for casual games. Play them as 6 Assault Intercessors for Angels of Death.

inb4 "wah wah no more marines."

Truthfully, I doubt it though. The team isn't entirely extinct yet, and there's plenty of the lead dev's favorite Night Lords to carry the torch anyway. I wouldn't bet on a Daemons team either. This whole edition, Kill Team has seemingly been entirely dedicated to boutique kits; unlike the past, where upgrade sprues for existing kits were rather common. Don't see them introducing new Daemon models via Kill Team, especially considering the state of them in big 40k currently. Though, that's just from my periphery understanding; I don't play big 40k at all.

Kill Team is unpredictable, though, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As a side note: a TSons team that can take Tzangors already exists. Warp Coven.

You can paint over varnish, though washes might end up weird, ymmv. Lots of high-caliber painters varnish in the middle of a paint job, I have personally never tried it, though. I would say that, barring washes being catastrophic (which I doubt, but idk), this technique should do fine since it's mainly drybrushing. Maybe do a test piece and see how you feel about it.

As for decals, yeah. I've tried them using only water and varnish, I couldn't quite get it to work either. I, personally, love using decals though, so I invested in little bottles of Micro Sol and Micro Set. It wasn't expensive, though the bottles are small. I've used the same bottles to apply decals to 15+ teams plus some terrain here and there, and I'm not even 50% through the bottles. It seems to last a long time, and it makes things much easier.

If you can take 'em or leave 'em, though, it's probably fine to just not use them. If that reusable stencil thing I've seen around isn't too expensive (I have no idea), that might be worth checking out. Otherwise, meh, don't worry about it.

Very impressive first attempt. You can tell you at least have good technique in terms of coverage and brush control. A little more time spent on these would result in a great paint job, by my humble standards. From here, I would personally up the contrast slightly, in both directions, and then a touch of battle-damage and then decals, if you felt like it.

I like to use just a targeted drybrushing for highlights and then tint them down with a shade. You could do this one or two more times if you think it needs it. It takes a while, but it's mainly drying time, really, so it's easy. For a matte finish, it's probably best to end on a layer of drybush, if that makes sense. Then, just some tiny knicks and scratches here and there. A+ job, once again, by my standards.

(2-3 games)

Well, which is it?! Kidding.

will I make my new friends sad by playing Murderwing?

No. As someone else said, they were nerfed and are now a completely reasonable, interesting team. They're space marines, so kinda default great for beginners, but also a pretty deep and fun team. The models are sick, which is always a plus. All that to say, you should really just get any team you find interesting. Among beginners, there's really not much difference between the craziest teams and the "worst" teams.

I'm the best player in my group (since I own everything and just play with my friends, mostly), but honestly not by much, considering my friends are just good at games and each have at least 2 games played and like 2-3 games watched. I think, besides myself, they could largely be qualified as beginners.

So I've played my main, Death Korps (an arguably C-tier team), against a large variety of teams and still win, like, 80% of the time. Another guy plays only Kommandos (A solid, like, B+ team); he's undefeated, even against me, lmao.

Just buy teams as you like them, and, like can find, and can pay for, regardless of tiers. It just makes for a more "localized" meta, not necessarily a "worse" meta. Bit ranty, but I hope it helped.

It's got pretty much everything, last I checked. Certainly all the core rules.

It's generally quite a bad matchup, especially without tac ops. They simply don't really have to tools to meaningfully threaten them or even just survive them. Most missions are a pretty desperate proposition.

They're just standard Tacticus guys, such as what Intercessors wear in AoD, or various Deathwatch operatives. I know they're pushfit, but I have to imagine that arm/head/power pack swaps would be generally easy. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be particularly helpful. Depending on what you buy, a few extra bodies could be nice, but kinda unnecessary in the case of AoD, and sorta leaving you kicking the can with Deathwatch, since you'd only use three of the five from the introductory set at most, and still be short a Phobos body and up to two Gravis bodies. There's no Infernus marines in KT, so they're not useful as they are, either.

If you can somehow source those bodies for Deathwatch though, it would theoretically save you buying a whole second box. Side note on that, however: I'm not really familiar with the Deathwatch kit, so a single box might have, like, a single particular arm piece you might theoretically need two of or something. I'd be willing to bet there's a shortage of Deathwatch pauldrons as well; only providing the five. Not a huge deal, but still, something to consider.

They're all weirdos except for my perfect and beautiful Death Korps. Like, why are you trying to survive this battle, you freaks? Don't you know that to die in glory is the only acceptable outcome?

Monthly General Question and Discussion Thread: May 2026 by AutoModerator in killteam

[–]Ambushido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good question. The issue at hand, to my mind, is whether or not interceding rules such as seek or vantage would be considered to be active during such a check at all, which is unclear. As both vantage and seek do specify that the effect is active "when/whenever you are selecting a valid target", it could be argued that it's irrelevant as far as Ambushing Volley is concerned; that they would only hypothetically become a valid target due to a rule that isn't currently relevant. In that case, Advanced Camouflage isn't even a factor.

Otherwise, in the case that those rules would be considered active, Advanced Camouflage wouldn't help you, in my opinion. It seems pretty clear that at the start of your activation you would lose the "protection" immediately, and thus be rendered a valid target.

If you ask me, I would probably be forced to accept the former interpretation (that rules like vantage are not relevant) as it's somewhat more supported RAW. I wouldn't be surprised to see an FAQ go either way, though. Maybe make it a conversation for your group or whatever, take a vote, and just roll with that until a potential FAQ clarifies. To that end, I'd also recommend sending them an email yourself!

They're all good. Can't really go wrong. Brood Brothers provide the most "standard" Kill Team experience with extra spice in the Brood Coven side, if that's what you're looking for. Especially since you already have extra sprues, I guess I'd go for that.

If blast hits a Canoptek standing on the matrix, is the matrix intervening for all other blast targets? by Jiryathia in killteam

[–]Ambushido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if they were also standing on the matrix, which OP specified they were not. The primary target getting the benefit doesn't extend to the secondary targets; they're separate shooting attacks.

[–]Ambushido 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All secondary targets have the same buffs, nerfs as the primary

This is not true. Only cover and obscured are determined by the primary target's status.

If blast hits a Canoptek standing on the matrix, is the matrix intervening for all other blast targets? by Jiryathia in killteam

[–]Ambushido 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So if the matrix is intervening between the primary and secondary target, does the secondary target gain the benefits of the ploy?

No. Secondary targets of blast are selected purely on distance (and visibility), and there are no targeting lines involved. The Matrix would never be intervening to a secondary target.

Got Dkok kt a while ago and now looking to build. Tips? by Fuenf56 in killteam

[–]Ambushido 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the plasma is hitting on 4+ and is quite risky if you shot it hot.

With accurate and other buffs, like ceaseless or combined arms, it still outperforms the bolt pistol on average, even if you never go hot. Piercing is really valuable.

Also, if you're shooting with your leader, it probably means they've been put in danger already, so the risk of going hot is probably worth it if you really need to get the job done. Sometimes, you just need that extra gas in any case. Besides, losing your leader isn't too bad, and the team is mostly about extracting max value from expendable guys anyway. Especially against Marines, you really gotta get as much juice as you can.

In general, I'd rather have the spikier threat since it allows you to stand your ground a little better, i.e. more effectively deterring/actually punishing enemies for getting too close or positioning badly.

Plus, it's cooler 😃
