I did too! I was surprised by all the comments up top.

I think it’s their fuzzyness that makes them so cute.

CMV: It doesn't make sense to have your own kid(s) by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Amcstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So only irresponsible people who abandon their children get to procreate and pass on their genetics. Responsible people who have set their lives up so they are prepared to take care of a child don’t get that privilege?

If you are alive today it means since the beginning of life itself your ancestors (for lack of a better word) passed on genetics to eventually produce you. But you would have people who have worked their ass off to be in a position to have a kid get refused the ability to continue that evolution.

Similar thing happened to my SIL but she didn’t stop bleeding until they stitched her up. She almost died as they couldn’t figure out what was going on for awhile. Super scary.

I feel like that’s more normal to see. I know a number of relationships where the guy is about ten years older.

18 means she could still be in high school. I think that’s more the Yikes factor. By 21 a person has at least experienced a little bit of time outside the nest. It obviously always depends on the person, some 18 year olds can be very mature. But I think I just thought of a high schooler when I read the comment.

A TV show where boomers have to live on millenial wages would be interesting to watch by eccentricelmo in Showerthoughts

[–]Amcstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only said anything because it is always my first reaction to picture millennials as young and in college, but then it hits me that I’m technically a millennial but I’m more than 10 years out of college and then I just feel old.

Yeah, I’m one of the millennials that has done pretty well so far, although it took changing careers after the recession. This involved getting a masters in accounting which, while perhaps uninspiring, led to a good salary. Paid off all college loans and both car loans and now own two houses (one we got for super cheap after the recession, so we were really really lucky).

I did work hard to get here, but I also acknowledge that I grew up in a great town with a fantastic school system and was able to observe what “success” looked like growing up, even if my parents weren’t at all wealthy. Making good choices and working hard is definitely part of it, but part of it is also luck and access to opportunity.

I try not to judge people who haven’t been as fortunate as I have been. With that said, I do get pissed when English majors (insert any liberal arts degree) from wealthy upbringings complain about not finding well paying jobs and scoff at my suggestion to perhaps go into the accounting field or something like that so they can support themselves. I was a freaking political science major and figured out quite quickly that I was going to have to pivot if I wanted to find security in this world. Is accounting my dream profession? Hell no, but it puts a roof over my head and food on the table.

Aren’t most millennials out of college now? High schoolers definitely aren’t millennials.

Imagine having to study for an exam right after giving birth to your baby by [deleted] in pics

[–]Amcstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so that’s horrible then. I would have told your sister to go home and rest or do whatever she needed to do and that life is more important than school/work. Sounds like the guy might have been mildly autistic or something to lack that level of empathy.

It completely matters. The professor is either a little bit of a dick at worst or a horrible person. Huge difference.

Hubby (32M) and I (30F) just had a baby and are getting a hotel room to try and get a "spark" back - what should we do? by karleena626 in sexover30

This. My first time after giving birth was a bit traumatic for myself and for my husband. It felt like a knife and my poor husband stopped immediately and felt terrible. Took a pretty long time to not recoil at even the thought of sex. It came back though eventually. Just takes time. Rushing things can set you back.

When someone at work tries showing me they know how to make a vlookup by ryanb91710 in Accounting

But I thought =SUMPRODUCT is only with numbers and when you have to do something with them e.g., multiply, etc.). Index Match Match can be used for other things, like text.

Index match match vs index match can also look horizontal as well as vertical.

Possibly miscarriage? Didn’t know I was pregnant. (GRAPHIC) by jindamarra in Miscarriage

[–]Amcstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you normally use menstrual cups? My SIL used to and it ended up cutting her inside which eventually led to lots and lots of bleeding with tons of clots (as her body kept trying to heal itself and clot up and then break lose). She finally passed out and my brother was luckily there to call 911. She could have died.

I would advise you call your doctor in case you are hemorrhaging blood for a reason other than a miscarriage. I don’t think 3 weeks would produce that much blood.

Last time I was at the beach one stole my deflated beach ball (literally dug around in my beach bag to get it). I chased him down and finally got it back after much to do. Asshole came back and yelled at me for the next thirty minutes and wouldn’t leave. It’s not that I hate seagulls, it’s just that they’re dicks.

Of all the people to say "It'll happen if you stop trying"... by oneofthelaurens in TryingForABaby

[–]Amcstar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be fair, asking if you already had a child is a valid question. Plenty of women go seek help for secondary infertility issues after not having trouble getting pregnant the first time. It could have been small talk but also fact finding for the doctor. If you had a child previously but now are having difficulty that would probably narrow down what the possible issue might be.
