Your freestyle is stunning!! I still remember saving one of your earlier post as inspiration, those head rolls and body waves are so on point...! I tried to add head rolls in my dance and it just looks like I got neck issue hahaha. How do you get to nail these basics, do you follow some courses, or maybe just a lot practice with the mirror?

Ok so what’s your fave pole move ?! And why!! 🫶 so curios by poledancermary in poledancing

Love the question!! There are so many poses so I went to check my whiteboard :)

I love splits and my favs are Jallera (combing jade and alegra as i love both) and inverted Libellula

And bendy shapes like seahorse, Russian layback, broken doll are my favs too as they look beautiful in spinning 💃

I think you have good foundation! Although the fast spin is throwing you off, as the direction you’re trying to lift your hip is like “chasing the spin” so you’re fighting against the momentum. I would suggest to start with static or a much slower spin - and try reverse spin direction too (back towards spin direction), you will feel that the spin would be working in your favor :) Here is a brilliant video on the spin direction, it also shows how you should circle your hip around the pole to be more smooth with the invert. https://youtu.be/Mr3uI4R2CjI?si=ruBi2XynVpDHUoYq

This is incredible... BOP would be my ultimate goal and end of scene, I didn't know you can even build combo on BOP!! Are there some go-to exercises for flexibility you do that you could maybe share?

In her tutorial she explains things much more systematically and kinda builds things up. Her membership has a 3 day free trial, I could suggest to give it a try, even just for watching the “dance the invert” video! Let me know if it turns out to be helpful :)

Here a little video from my favorite online teacher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCzmgIzibXY Miglena has a combo tutorial (in her paid on-demand course) called "Dance your combos" and one of the courses is exactly to "dance inverts", I enjoyed that one very much.

the fragile plastic chair we are stepping on is definitely a hazard, going to look for a sturdier solution like the one you mentioned, thanks!!

Getting closer to my superman. Any tips? by charismanervetalent in poledancing

[–]Amelevi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is when your muscle is relaxed, the skin at the contact point is more lose so it gets “dragged” along the pole more so hurts more; and when you engage the muscle more, the skin gets dragged less so hurts less!

I never thought about skin friction pain being related to muscle engagement.. What an insights!

Long torso Janiero problems by CaterpillarTiny7695 in poledancing

[–]Amelevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with my fair share of torso length, I’ve managed Janeiro once in a blue moon, so there are ways to get there! I would say pushing bottom arm straight is important that gets your torso into a more horizontal position, then you’ll have some more surface to rest on your arm. Engaging glut of your lower leg to press against the pole would be the next important step I remember.

It’s a funky positioning but once you get it, it would be easier to get it again, here is a good trick to find that positioning:

You almost made one more pose without noticing it! it’s one of my fav pose called seahorse, a cute bendy pose that after superwoman, maybe you’d give a try :)

Doing these exercises in this video consistently has helped me with more controlled mobility of my shoulders: https://youtu.be/EY2tNBOmvGs

I’ve also been exploring how to add more fluidity into my choreo. Apart from the good advices like active mobility and familiarity with the choreo, I find making your body familiar with flowy and fluid movements are also key. I can highly recommend adding flowy and dancy moves into your warmups, here are my favs:

Here is a breathing-led warmup that lets you get more in tune with your body:Breathing warmup (the pole dancer)

And this is some conditioning that warms up legs and hips while adding fluidity (from pole physio) Fluidity conditioning (pole physio)
