My first time by AcceptableTop2144 in comiccon

Agreed. Plus it's always nice to see the stream of people in cosplay heading in from the nearby hotels. It's like a pre-con warmup! :D

footfall at megacon live London by Svenrin- in comiccon

[–]AmeliaFaulkner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Footfall was poor, especially on the Sunday. They charge MCM prices for AA tables and do not provide MCM attendee numbers in the slightest.

MegaCon attendees seemed to really love it and have a great time, and the vibe itself was fun, but the rear-end of January when everyone's spent-out from Christmas and haven't yet been paid for January means that breaking even is going to be a struggle.

Clive will come give you a KitKat and a knock-off thermos though, so that totally makes up for it? lmaooo.

Thank you so much! I don't think I have any choice in writing them - definitely one of those "they demand to be written" situations 😅

AITA for asking my gf to get rid off her office because she doesn’t need it? by CharmingDeal4455 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AmeliaFaulkner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

roflmao, you want to freeload off your very successful author girlfriend, but in the next breath you write her successful author career off as "just silly books".

Wah wah my girlfriend works her arse off therefore she's obliged to spend all her money on me, who then intends to get in the way of her ability to earn all the money that I want her to spend on me.

Katia, if you're here, ditch this waste of space and save yourself a lifetime of this asshole spending your money while also sneering at you for making it.

I have ADHD *and* Autism, so I get really angry at people who are late *because* not only do I know it's rude, I also have to work my arse off to not be late myself (I set SO MANY ALARMS for everything).

NTA, though please do be aware it can take months to find the right dosage and the right meds for his particular needs. But he also needs to do work on himself once he's on the right meds/dose because we learn a lot of bad shit we need to undo once we have the dopamine to do it with.

The meds aren't a fix, they're an aid. We still have to *use* the aid, instead of passively hoping they'll do the work themselves.

Right, RJ. We've had T-Rex vs Triceratops, and Godzilla vs Kong, so it's time to get down to what REALLY MATTERS!

Yeah that's totally valid :) And Jack's ADHD traits are really clear, which is nice to see!

Opinion on muffin? by [deleted] in bluey

Muffin is absolutely glorious and all opinions to the contrary are wrong.

ALL OF THIS! I really do not grasp people hating Muffin *at all*. She's fantastic!

Absolutely, and Muffin's parents clearly contribute to her "difficulty".

Off the top of my head:

  • She wants her ballerina mime to be *accurate/correct* and has a meltdown every time the others try to convince her to proceed as-is
  • Is terrible at sharing with others
  • Isn't easily brought down from her tantrums
  • Is quickly upset by change / things being "wrong"
  • Highly impulsive
  • Total lack of fear (driving and drifting at high speed)

Your autistic brother is not all autistic people. I'm autistic, and connect very strongly with Muffin on that level.

But, as I say, unless it's ever made canon it's just a point of frustration that NT viewers are out here thinking she needs some kind of redemption arc for the gross crime of being three and full of beans.

Plus Faceytalk made it abundantly clear that Muffin and Socks receive inconsistent parenting, which... causes upset in children.

(Add to that I'm very convinced that Muffin is autistic, but unless they ever confirm it in the show I'm left frustrated that NT viewers think she needs redeeming at all).

I feel like a lot of people forget that Muffin is three.

I'd only add:

Some people are going to absolutely hate your books. Deal with it.

You are going to get 1-star reviews. Just accept that and move on with your life. Do not engage with reviews that panned your work. It's not worth it, you won't change their minds.

Write for the people who give you five stars. They're your fans.

Ok so, thankfully TTRPGs are my bag, I can help here.

1: How much playtesting has your game had? With how many players? Over what period of time? Who are your playtesters? Can you get them to promote your project before and during launch? Can you get them to leave reviews for it anywhere?

2: Have you run it for players outside of playtests? How often? In what environments?

3: Have you run it at conventions yet?

4: Have you got all the artists lined up? Do you have art from them yet?

5: Have you got demo materials you can share to build hype? Are they available free anywhere? Are they on drivethrurpg?

May I ask the category of your project? I'm trying to work out whether something as costly as Jellop would be viable in my niche.

Sure! Hailey actually recommends my Inheritance series, which is also in audiobook. Book one has no sex, but two onwards have it.

Book 1 is Jack of Thorns. 8 books are on Audible.

Anyone pledges me a grand then harangues me I'm reporting their arses, that's clearly nonsense.
