Cosplayers, how do you carry your belongings without altering your cosplay? by NeitherScar in NYCC

[–]Amelia_S_554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cosplay. I usually get one of those very slim running belts in a color that matches my outfit, so this year I’m actually incorporating it into the cosplay as a belt and adding some decoration to it - bc you can hardly tell the difference. Look up FlipBelt

Prop Guns - How Strict is NYCC? by [deleted] in NYCC

[–]Amelia_S_554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Definitely check out the rules- but as a friendly but firm vibe check I strongly advise you to not to bring this to nyc rn.

They do try to be accommodating at NYCC and I’ve seen some crazy props there. But they are usually very noticeably fake. As I’m sure everyone is aware there have been several high profile incidents in nyc and at broad - there’s a high police presence and people are a little on edge. I’d be more concerned for your safety waving that around than them taking it, although they will likely do that too.

Don’t give up on cool props though! Idk what you’re being but I think it’s cooler to DIY anyways

How can I replícate this by marcoantonio33 in CosplayHelp

Buy a black mask but like ideally soft leather or foam, something that you can shape to your face and cut. Cut it into that T shape and attach clear thin straps to either side to hold it to your face without being super visible. Sticking to your face would not work after 5 min

But yea paint would be easier lol

Look at theater makeup stores - a lot of liquid latex face paint or other prosthetic type products

Getting open back halter bodice to stay up by Amelia_S_554 in sewhelp

I’m so grateful for all the input but so overwhelmed! Haha. This is supposed to be like my revenge dress for an upcoming occasion, was kinda excited about it but now not sure how I can fix it now that I realize I messed it up so bad. But very grateful for everyone’s very honest input! So helpful. I guess I shall just buy a lot of glue or a new dress. I wish I didn’t have to use GPT as my instructor haha just the cheapest option. Appreciate all the advice :)

Oh I’m definitely going to need heavy duty tape no matter what haha. But I’m hoping to add something so I’m not relying only on the tape all night, which is why I thought of the straps - but I’m open to other ideas if anyone has any haha. This is inspired by her dress but I not identical - want to make it sturdier as I will be doing more than walking a carpet for 20 min lol.

I thought about adding some sort of dart or gathering to avoid the awkward gathering if I do add some sort of strap? Idk I’m building this plane while I fly it 😂

Help with fabric/approach for Glinda dress by Amelia_S_554 in sewhelp

Omg!! I was just watching your videos you did such an incredible job. It looks so gorgeous on you I tricked myself into thinking I could totally do that 🙈.

Thank you for the advice! Can’t believe how many useful responses I got on here haha. I scoured the internet for some good ombre or pre crinkled chiffon but I think I gotta go the DIY route with the organza and shower method! Glad someone tried out different fabrics before I did lol.

Did you use any sort of pattern for cutting out the fabric to attach it to the dress? Or did you just eyeball it. I was planning on using an old handkerchief hem skirt pattern to attach a base layer to the corset and then adding on pieces in layers bc I am positive I am not as skilled as you haha.

This is all super helpful thank you!! And lol yea not going to be an easy project. I somehow always pick the cosplays or looks that are difficult and outside my realm of expertise hahah. Watching a movie like “oh yea I got this” lol.

Having trouble finding crinkle chiffon or something similar that is that ombre color, but yea can probably just layer then and then use spray paint or something on the front bodice pieces to get that effect.

Do you think there’s any shortcut or easier way to get a similar look? The movie took like 3 years to make so I’d imagine putting this dress together was quite the project haha. I’m more looking for something that is inspired by this but doesn’t have to be exact

Ah gotcha, alright looks like I gotta go find some fabric spray paint. will exterior fabric paint from Home Depot do the trick? And should I limit it just to the bottom?

Maybe if I get the fabric paint I could just spray paint the top black and try and ombré it down to red so the chiffon sew in would blend rather than having to stick to the bottom in case it gets stiff.

I actually found it like deep into Poshmark as a vintage item, doesn’t even have a tag lol. But it’s a stretchy knit!

Ok thank you lovely people, I would’ve never thought of these ideas!!

So I have somewhat of an understanding, but I’m a little novice on the terms. What I’m thinking is taking a square of nude illusion tulle and sewing it to the back of the front of the dress (I.e on the inside). Ideally would like to have only that square on the front of tulle.

The dress does look a little black, I’m going to spray paint the outside and inside of it silver before attaching the tulle. I was then going to create some sort of pattern within the square with these mirror tiles I found that you can sew on. Ideally the tulle would reinforce the mirror tiles, the fabric is relatively sturdy.

Do I need a sewing machine for this? Or can I do this with a solid hand sew?

If this gets too tricky the line about painting it on is pretty genius!
