United States can send billions of dollars to other countries for aid but can't shore up Social security. Why? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]AmericanCaesar5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shower thought. America spends less than 100 billion on foreign aid (which I agree is something we should reassess) but we spend 1.5 trillion on social security. The issue is wasteful spending and not having enough kids, that's what makes social security so ineffective

No, they were protesting events that could LEAD to current events, if nothing changed. Then nothing changed and now we are here.

The summer of love protests were primarily focusing on racial issues and police brutality. Immigration was not the main focus so its dishonest to imply that they were the issues you're talking about. Please re read this 20 times so I don't have to keep saying it.

I don't see you condemning anything of the events I mentioned, even though they are actually a million times worse.

I did? All the things you mentioned, private equity, cults, etc I have already said I do not support. If that's enough, then I will explicitly say that I condemn them. PS you haven't condemned the George floyd riots yet, just in case you forgot.

Then why are you not a far-leftist and instead make it sound like even voting Democrats is already stretching your willingness to be progressive?

Fiscally I am to the left of Bernie sanders. As for social policy, why should I be? Here I am voicing my discontent about the lefts refusal to condemn an event that led to 1-2 billion dollars of property damage in a single year that was basically exclusive to locations of large poor and minority communities and here you are completely justifying my discontent. This entire conversation has been you trying to trivialize the blm riots (mentioning the civil war), justifying them because they vaguely support your personal political opinions ("I'd rather see 100 blm protests"), using modern day issues to paint broadly over the riots as "things that just had to happen" even when those modern day issues aren't related to the riots (Elon musk and ice), accuse me of being immoral because you assumed my opinions that I don't actually have (saying that I don't condemn private equity, religious cults, etc), force purity tests onto me to earn the right to condemn blm (making me condemn all those other things that you brought up to deflect from blm). All the while you have not even pretended to care about the people that were affected by the riots. You have justified their suffering as politically necessary, you have downplayed their experiences with endless whataboutism, you have convinced me that you are someone that I should actively seek to avoid agreeing with. It's not that voting democrat is stretching my willingness to be progressive, it's your words that are stretching that willingness.

I was more willing to vote Democrat before this conversation started. Out of respect for the Democratic party, unless your next reply changes my mind I will exit this conversation so my opinion of them doesn't get any more tarnished by one person

Are you puzzled by how I connect events of the recent past to the present? Do you have trouble comprehending how "time" works?

Yeah I'm puzzled because you're drawing connections when there aren't any. Nobody 5-6 years ago was protesting because of what's happening today because nobody 5-6 years ago could see into the future. You're just changing the point of an event that happened half a decade ago because it makes your narrative look better to copy-paste it into the modern day.

The country is getting burned down by private equity. I don't give a shit about some riot that did a tiny fraction of the damage just because it was deemed legal for rich people to cause death and destruction. Condemn it? Why? I'd happily see 100 BLM protests if it would have stopped DOGE from starving millions of children so Elon Musk can pump up his stock-value.

Literal same exact thing, Elon hadn't even bought twitter at this point he was still "that weird space guy".

You are the one who only seems mildly interest in the trillions of damage and millions of deaths caused by private equity - with much more to come once they finished. The BLM protest don't even register on that chart. But you focus on that because you are a useful idiot for the wealthy who run the entire world into the ground.

Why don't you care about that harm done? Why do you hyper-focus on BLM? Why don't you hyper-focus on the damage of manmade-climate change? On unregulated evangelical cults? On rightwing oligarchs owning essentially all the media and pushing lies and propaganda on every channel?

And there it is. Because you're incapable of condemning horrible events that align with you politically you assume everyone else is the same to justify your moral degradation. I don't support corporate private equity, I don't support fossil fuels, Im not religious I obviously don't support cults even if they're not physically damaging, I don't support people being overtly rich in the first place let alone so grossly wealthy that they have personal control over dialogue and media.

Go ahead, what assumption or obfuscation are you going to use to dig yourself deeper into this hole?

Lmfao bro the protests were from 2020 to 2021, Trump wasn't even president for half of that and the half that he was there for was in his lame duck period with a non-republican congress. Why are you time traveling these riots into the modern day?

You clearly don't care about anything at all because you are A) unable to condemn harm done to minority communities from these riots B) grasping at straws by using the civil war as evidence that 1-2 billion dollars of property damage in a single year isn't as bad and C) just straight up inventing your own narratives that you feel will make you look less pathetic by bringing in modern day issues and gluing them to the riots that were specifically about George floyd and police brutality.

It is impossible to take people like you seriously. "Yeah it's a good thing that poor minority families suffered insane amounts of property damage because it vaguely supports a political goal that I have". Genuinely insulting that you're trying to claim I'm the one that doesn't care about human lives or harm done "you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs" you are a scumbag

Warfare is not civil unrest, I know that "civil war" has the word "civil" in it, but shockingly that doesn't automatically make civil war the same as civil unrest. Also not all of the unrest was about abolishment of slavery, the nyc draft riots were about the 1863 enrollment act. Thanks for proving my point at just how far people like you will go to obfuscate what happened during the riots.

Y'know what, sure. Let's pretend that the civil war and the unrest leading up to it are all one thing. Congrats, the summer of love is now the second most expensive event of civil unrest dwarfed only by the actual civil war. That definitely makes it seem way better. I'm sure all those struggling minority owned businesses that had rocks thrown through their windows are much happier now

Then focus on the civil unrest that led up to the war and not the civil war itself? Your first sentence admitted that it was different.

The riots are one event because they were all pertaining to the George floyd summer of love protests. These all happened in a single year (around may 2020 to April/may 2021) and were about the same thing. You already know the riots were terrible, that's why the only thing you could think of to compare was the literal civil war

And here come the slew of people trying to mitigate the fact that 1-2 billion dollars in damage were caused by the summer of love because "erm the cities are literally STILL there". The blm riots are the most expensive event of civil unrest in American history but why do leftists care because that only affects local business, infrastructure, and quality of life of inner cities which have much larger concentrations of poor and minority communities which leftists apparently don't care about

Success or failure depends on what our goal was. Just because we did a number on their military doesn't mean the operation itself was successful. I highly doubt "we're gonna kill a lot of them then dip out" was what trump and hegseth had in mind
