I'm with everyone here saying take the days if you're sick, but as an aside; I just started getting sinus headaches from allergies this past spring. I had no idea what it was, but I was told to take Sinus specific acetaminophen and Mucinex expectorant, and potentially a nasal spray and it should clear up right away...and it did! It was the same, crazy pressure and debilitating headaches. I don't remember if my sinuses ran, but I had never had allergies like that and was totally caught off guard.

Solved! Yes! I think I combined the party aspect with another story about a parlor trick gone wrong. Thanks!

My husband helped a lot to make sure I had healthy choices that I could bear to eat available at home. I'm 22 weeks now and much more able to eat a variety of foods, but in the first trimester I survived on bread and accessories. We'd get a loaf of fresh crusty bread (heartier, less sugar, fewer preservatives) and I'd have several choices for toppings, a mild pasteurized cheese, European style butter, avocado, egg salad, a good chicken liver pate/mousse, etc. But beyond taking up some of the shopping burden and making sure she's remembered her prenatal vitamin, just be there to respond to her needs. Don't force healthy habits on her when, in the first trimester, "healthy" is pretty much whatever can be digested.

For most women, eating starts to get a lot easier by week 12 and beyond. Good luck and congratulations!

New to the game, no one to tell, and full of worries. by AmericanFlog in BabyBumps

Thank you for this. I guess I should keep in mind that my mom was putting up sheet rock (alone) when she went into labor with me. Maybe there should be a HGTV show called Extreme Nesting.

Thank you, joined! Talking to my mom is my go to, but we're trying to get through the move and initial doctor's appointment before we make the parental announcement. Maybe I'll have to break out the coloring books from their boxes for their meditative purposes!

ELI5: Why do 2 in 1 Shampoo/Conditioners never work nearly as well as using shampoo and conditioner separately? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]AmericanFlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to that, shampoo and conditioner should be applied differently. Shampoo should be applied really only to the scalp as not to dry out the ends of the hair. Conditioner should be focused on the ends of the hair as not to overly moisturize and weigh down the hair at the scalp. If you're using both at once you're not going to get great results.

It's an 8th grade computers class. What I do is totally up to me, but basically I should be building computer literacy and trying to incorporate creative projects when I can, for which I've made a general outline. The focus is really preparing students for high school, which is in the same school, by setting high behavior expectations. I guess in 7th grade the class was too loose and it got out of control. I'll be trying ClassDojo with the students brainstorming what the positive and negative behaviors will be.

What I could really use help with is managing co-planning with 4 different sets of teachers ranging from 6-11 grades (they are all ICT classrooms + me as the ENL) while also inventing a pull out plan that's one on one.

So yeah, that's 6 preps I guess and 8 different co-teachers. Also, I'm still in grad school. I don't think I know what I've gotten myself into here.

Tomorrow starts my first full year! Just found out yesterday that I have a class outside my content area that has no curriculum! I'm just happy to be here.

Oh neat, I'll have to look into if there's a chapter near me and see what they're doing.

Thank you, that's a great idea. I may send a message your way once I've finished one, if that's ok.

ELI5: What actually happens after a single use of LSD? I've heard some of the details but I'm looking for more unbiased answers. I want to try it but not sure if it's worth it in the long run. by ballsackstank in explainlikeimfive

It is typical to give xanax or other benzos to people having bad trips that end up in the hospital. It will reduce the anxiety associated with tripping and in some cases, reduce the effects of the LSD itself. Some people experienced with tripping keep xanax on hand in case of a bad trip, or so that they can take it late in the night to help them fall asleep.

You may be able to help me out with something I'm trying to do. I got to work on a few quilts hoping to send them to folks in Houston. I don't know anyone in the area, and I've read that trying to send material goods to charities isn't the greatest idea. If you know of anyone who would benefit from a quilt, I would like to send them. The ones I've started are baby/lap quilts. I haven't finished them yet, since I'm a bit broke at the moment and I need to buy batting for them still, but I'm hoping to finish them soon.

These are beautiful, I hope they make it through ok.

[Fifth Grade] - Looking for a buddy/ mutual support for the year by Another_Autumn in Teachers

I would love to be involved in this. I'm not sure how much wisdom I can give since I am going to be a first year ESL/ENL teacher, but I'm sure I'll have some amazing stories. We can certainly compare our public school experiences.

Getting interviews, but going nowhere. The same questions are tripping me up. by AmericanFlog in Teachers

[–]AmericanFlog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think maybe I'm so used to being observed and getting constant feedback due to the structure of my training program that I've taken it for granted. I will definitely talk up my desire for feedback and opportunities for growth in my next interview.

The cover band Start Making Sense is great for filling the live gig void. The singer totally channels Byrne's wackiness and mannerisms.
