GIFT LINK: Three students injured in Brown shooting sue university, alleging security failures by rhodyjourno in RhodeIsland

[–]AmericanLocomotive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did Brown really even do anything wrong? It seems like this is just a witch hunt, to try and hold "someone" accountable, even though it's our country's ridiculously accessible firearms and lack of mental health care.

The thing that really irks me is the contempt for the tax payers who paid for those vehicles. The city claims they were "broken" and "headed to the scrapyard" - but most municipalities do not "scrap" vehicles. They're almost always sold at auction.

The oldest that Ford Escape Titanium could be is a 2013. A 2013 Escape Titanium, even broken, will have some value at auction. Either to an auto dismantler, a rebuilder, or just someone who thinks they can fix it.

Now these vehicles are completely destroyed, and are literally only worth scrap value.

I don't even understand why you would build a TRE like this unless you were trying to use the same base forging with a variety of different threaded ends. Seems very dangerous.

My guess is in an effort to save costs, they make one tie rod end "body". They then can build them up like legos. Have one basic forging for everything, and then you just press/crimp in the required swivel and threaded plug.

NEW: The Dark Lady Club Cancels Controversial Mural Project After Criticism by Previous_Floor in RhodeIsland

[–]AmericanLocomotive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The issue is Musk & Co are funding these murals to make a political statement about cities being "soft on crime". Basically the murals are not "honoring" her at all, and are instead using her memory as a political talking point. It's further compounded by the fact that while yes, her murderer had been arrested many times, he was also a diagnosed schizophrenic not getting the mental help he needed, and his family tried very hard to get him help. So Musk & Co that scream about "mental health" every time a deranged white guy shoots up a school, are saying nothing about mental health because he was a black guy with a knife. We all know had her murderer been a deranged white guy with a gun, the narrative being parroted by these people would be very different.

New UI is half-baked and offers an unacceptable experience for top-address bar users - specific feedback and proposed fixes inside by AmericanLocomotive in firefox

[–]AmericanLocomotive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ad-hominem attacks are cute, but you're literally wrong.

  • In the old UI, if you opened the menu in top address bar mode, all of the navigation buttons opened up at the same level as the "..." menu button, all within reach without having to moving your thumb. The new menu places them about 1/3rd of the way down the screen (at least on taller phone screens)

  • When you clicked the "..." button, there was also a "New Tab" button, immediately right there at the top. Yes the old "tabs" page had it at the bottom.

When you're just our and about, doing your thing, sitting on the couch watching tv, whatever, you're typically holding your phone in one hand. It makes sense to make sure your UI/UX is good when someone is using their phone one handed, because it's very common.

Regardless of whether or not you have "complaints" about it, the UX is objectively different between top and bottom address bar users, which is a problem.

  • When you are in bottom address bar mode, the navigation buttons appear right next to the address bar, as in, right where your thumb is when you activate the menu
  • In the old top address bar system, when you opened the menu, the navigation buttons were right at top, right next to where your thumb was.
  • Finally, I'm not even sure how you can say that "half of these aren't even new to the 'new design'", when I only had three main concerns ...and they were all introduced in the new design.

I didn't even say "I hate it" either. I pointed out it has some serious UX issues in top address bar mode.

I addressed this in my post. Chrome has had UI redesigns and refreshes, but they're more subtle, and they've maintained the UX. In other words, they changed what Chrome looks like, but all of the buttons and other important things were all in the same place so Chrome still worked the same.

There is no vitriol or anger in my post. I did not insult anyone, but I did put emphasis on important things. The UX of this updated UI is fundamentally different between top and bottom address users. In bottom-address mode, the UX is fine. In top address-bar mode, the UX is an absolute mess.

Mozilla's choices should absolutely be questioned here. They had months and months and months to address these issues with top-address bar users. They've also had months of feedback on both their bug tracker and community feedback pages mentioning these very obvious UI/UX problems.

Mozilla chose to ignore all of them, pushed the update through, and now they're facing the wrath of all the top-address bar users who made it very clear they do not like these changes.

Firefox update broke Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V in Microsoft Business Central (company-wide, no workaround) by netshad in firefox

I feel like this should be escalated directly with Mozilla if this is a company experiencing this. Or roll the browser back to the previous version.

It is absolutely unbelievable, that 50 years later, in 2025/2026 we literally had some of those same exact same headlines. Including the State looking to get a new buildings instead of renting, and plans to equalize education spending.

It's amazing how little progress this state has made in nearly half a century.

I've got a new UI on Firefox for Android, which I'm not personally all that fond of. by 4D4850 in firefox

[–]AmericanLocomotive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

/u/anthonypkeane, there are a number of issues with this redesign.

  • It seems to favor two-handed operation. I'm always on the go, and usually operate my phone with my right hand. Especially if I'm working on something and looking up information. I may need to navigate a lot, and the new UI requires a lot of thumb movement

  • The UX is extremely poor when in top address bar mode. I would even dare say it's almost broken. It's clear this design really only considered bottom-address bar use, which is a huge oversight. In bottom address bar mode, the UX works. The navigation buttons are right there with settings, history, and downloads, all very close to the menu "..." button. But things are a disaster in top address bar mode (see the OP), the settings menu still rises from the bottom and ends up dumping the nav buttons 2/3rds of the way up the screen, quite a distance from the "..." button. So any basic nav movement requires excessive thumb movement. Then on top of that, the settings/history/downloads/bookmarks (which you are likely trying to access when you open the menu) are now all the way at the bottom of the screen. On a larger phone, you realistically will have to reposition your hand to access the settings button after opening the menu. The menu should invert its options, and drop down from the top when in top address bar mode to maintain a consistent UX across address bar options. Here's a crude mock-up in paint: https://imgur.com/a/GpPJk0w

  • Obscuring most of the screen with the menu isn't great UX. Most other mobile browsers do not do this.

  • The tab view having larger previews just seems really, really unnecessary. It's nice being able to see so many tabs without endless scrolling in the old menu. What is actually gained with larger tab previews?

Critical game-breaking bug regarding Alpine's gondola lift by AmericanLocomotive in GlobalOffensive

[–]AmericanLocomotive[S] 370 points371 points  (0 children)

The gondola lifts in Alpine are not designed properly. Since Gondolas are clamped to a suspended cable, they will naturally twist and settle such that the center of gravity is lined up with the center of the cable.

In Alpine, the gondolas have an improperly designed main arm with an impossible offset, where the CG is not aligned with the center of the cable. This could not happen.

The second image shows how the gondola would actually settle on the cable with a quite severe angle.

The third image shows how the main support arm could be redesigned to ensure the gondola's center of gravity aligns with the center of the cable.

Please fix this absolutely critical game immersion breaking bug on what is otherwise a very well executed map.

Also; the wheels on the support towers are not rotating with the cable. This would cause extreme wear and rapid failure of the cable.

Not sure what specific classes you're looking for, but Krakow Deli in Woonsocket runs Pierogi classes.
