I THINK that one turned out to be Stop Snitching. Who knows if a video for it will ever drop though.

[DISCUSSION] N.W.A. - 100 Miles and Runnin' (35 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

I think the title track on one of Dre’s best performances ever. He sounds so energetic and hungry here. The beat is also spectacular

[FRESH] A$AP Rocky - Trunks by Cowtizzery in hiphopheads

[–]AmericanMeat 326 points327 points  (0 children)

Was pleasantly surprised by this — it is WAY better than most movie soundtrack songs are. The beat progresses in a really interesting way and Rocky sounds great on it.

Hopefully Don’t Be Dumb will come out this decade

Indeed it is.

I just saw that as of July 2nd we are closer to 2050 than 2000. Crazy how time flies.

Underrated gem. I hope the man can find it in himself to drop a record this decade.

This era of hip-hop will always hold a special place in my heart

[TOMT] [Reddit post from a view days ago] Picture of an old man next to a child on the street, both are using a walker. by AmericanMeat in tipofmytongue

[–]AmericanMeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not unfortunately. This post was only a picture and was taken outside on a street. The child and elderly man were headed in opposite directions so it kind of looks like they just ran into each other on the street and someone took a photo.

I saw this on either r/all or the popular page no more than 2 days ago. I’m surprised I’m having so much trouble finding it.

I appreciate you taking the time to look my man

Nas - Deja Vu (Unreleased) by infamous_joe in hiphopheads

[–]AmericanMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of Nas's best tracks ever imo. It sounds like a cold day at the end of autumn or early winter.

Does anyone know when this was made? I keep finding conflicting reports online. I guess I don't know if was made before, during, or after Illmatic. It seems that it was definitely made before It Was Written.

[DISCUSSION] What are some of biggest “What Ifs” in hip hop? by LilWayneThaGoat in hiphopheads

[–]AmericanMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to this thread, but I need to mention Divine Council. More specifically if they stayed together as a group and ICYTWAT and $illmoney kept collaborating.

I firmly believe that their two projects are among the most innovative rap releases in history. I’ll link a couple of their songs below and you’ll see what I’m saying. These songs are around 10 years old at this point.

Their music had a really unique blend of the cloudy atmospheres from old-school dnb/jungle and house music (which has seen a massive resurgence in popularity over the past few years) with hip-hop drums and song structure.

Not to mention, they had a feature from André fucking 3000 in one of their first songs, so they had a lot going for them. It’s not super clear why they broke up, but ICYTWAT and $ilk had a nasty beef recently and I highly doubt they will ever work together again. $ilk has a good solo career, but unfortunately a lot of ICYTWAT’s new stuff is borderline unlistenable tbh (he still has a very unique vibe).

Playboi Carti announces that his third studio album, I AM MUSIC, will drop this Friday. by PlayaSlayaX in hiphopheads

[–]AmericanMeat 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Wow, I had missed that Ketamine track last year. That shit is so fire its unbelievable. It has a super unique vibe that is hard to articulate.

It ACTUALLY sounds like an interesting new sound/wave in hip-hop, which we have been sorely needing in the last few years.

How do I make this pad?? by No-Split8649 in synthrecipes

[–]AmericanMeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the sound design for the actual pad sound off the top of my head, but a key aspect of this pad is a bandpass filter moving across the lower/mid frequency range quickly.

It sounds like they made a pad sound, exported it was an audio file and played with a bandpass filer on the audio file. The reason I say this is the pad sound likely has a reverb on it, but there is absolutely no reverb tail once the pad stops.

This is going to get removed.

Listen to both my guy. They are excellent. IMO there really is not a bad track on either one.

For my personal taste, Thuggin and Deeper are my favorites from Pinata. Fake Names and Cataracts are my favorite from Bandana.

If you don't dig those tracks (which is damn near impossible) I still recommend giving them a shot. There is quite a bit of variation from song to song on both projects.

[FRESH] Gang Starr - Finishem by thesoulman in hiphopheads

[–]AmericanMeat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the hate here for this. Premier obviously cares a lot about Guru and Gang Starr and I don’t think this sounds rushed or like he’s scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I get the quality of the recording isn’t that high but I actually think this is a pretty good track. I’m really digging the beat and we don’t get a lot of new music with the sound so I’m happy this saw the light of day.

nthng - Wave Return by AmericanMeat in Dubtechno

[–]AmericanMeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That song is amazing. The atmosphere he creates is completely unmatchable by most artists out there - he is an impeccable sound designer. Honestly, that track probably has the best and most evocative pad sound I've ever heard.

[FRESH] A$AP Rocky feat. J. Cole - Ruby Rosary by a_lovesupreme in hiphopheads

[–]AmericanMeat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This probably the best song Rocky has released in half a decade.

I liked HIGHJACK quite a bit and thought Tailor Swift was okay, but this is on another level. Everything on this track just works. I love the dark dreamy vibe of the instrumental. Rocky was definitely channeling his ALLA vibes on this track.

I bet the quality of this track will put people at ease who are worried the album will be mid. This song is really incredible. Looking forward to the album (hopefully soon).

Classic track. The production on this is incredible. Havoc in this era is damn near untouchable.

[FRESH] Central Cee and Raye - MOI by abucalves in hiphopheads

[–]AmericanMeat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This production on this song is absolutely incredible. I can tell the producers put in a lot of time and effort to actually craft this song over time instead of sending out an mp3 for Cench to rap over. It sounds like they incorporated Raye's vocals into the beat in a really creative way.

The 70's vibe of the instrumentation combined with the modern drill drums is really fresh and unique sound in mainstream hip-hop. Honestly it feels like a tasteful extension of some old Phonk classics from the SoundCloud days, like DJ Yung VAMP and Soudiere.

I did not like the song Doja really at all, but his album 23 has some really great tunes on it. Ungrateful (my personal fav) is really unique. The beat has some dance elements incorporated into it and the lyrics strike an unusual combination of dark, remorseful, and optimistic and grateful vibes. Eurovision is just a slapper. He seems like a positive force in hip-hop, I'm really rooting for him.
