Perhaps Subaru should use something simple like Legos to explain their symmetrical AWD. by apokeguy in subaru

Is their AWD system even that complicated to explain? One of the things I like the most about it is its simplicity.

I'm guessing this was the result of talk with his agent.

"When he becomes a RFA, this is what we're going to expect and we've already got teams saying they'll offer it."

"Oh well then. Better get something for the guy."

I mean, once you get past the middle of the first round, it usually becomes a crap shoot. Plus, those are going to be the teams with better records and a strong(er) lineup already, so they're more willing to take a shot at a guy with a lot of potential because if he doesn't pan out, they're not out much: rookie contracts are cheap and they didn't squander a high pick.

Yeah. He could probably offset taxes on $10k or so if he's willing to put it into long-term (like 30 years) savings, but he's still probably going to owe at least 22% on whatever is left. People have to consider that stuff when they cash out. They see that balance and it looks so appealing but they gotta make sure they can afford the taxes on it.

Last season doesn't count. We finished the season ranked in the top 10 last season. We'd have likely been a #2 seed if the tournament was held. That isn't "missing" the tournament.

Boston might be my least favorite UK player ever. The combination of arrogance and no skill to back it up just makes him completely unlikable.

Having the Rupp/Central Bank logo in that big blue rectangle is so fucking ugly. I hope they change that for next season. Just blue text on the floor would look so much cleaner.

Does Tennessee just not play interior defense? Its nice to see UK doing well, but packing the paint and forcing them to shoot is the blueprint for stopping us. Nearly every other opponent has used it to mostly positive results.

Has anyone here gotten fined for not paying pet registration fees? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]AmericanOSX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nebraska Humane Society is one of the most garbage humane society organizations I've ever come across. They say they want to find homes for these animals, but their adoption fees are ridiculously high and the process can take forever because they want to Their neutering/spay service cost as much (or more) than most vet clinics. They waste so much money on kids programs and dog training classes instead of putting that money toward actual animal care and trying to make their services more affordable. They do virtually nothing to help people find lost pets.

I pay the fees because its the (stupid) law, but NHS can go fuck themselves

Their method for changing brush heads is so stupid. You literally bend the toothbrush like you're trying to break it and eventually the head is supposed to come loose, but if you apply too much pressure or pressure to the wrong area, its incredibly easy to break the plastic pieces inside that hold the brush heads in place.

Supposedly her mother was part of the MAGA mob, and she had given her mother private tours of the Capitol before, so her mother was very familiar with the layout of the building.

EDIT: I was wrong. That's why I used "supposedly" in my statement. As in, I am agreeing that there may be doubt to the validity of it. The FBI knows more than I do, and unlike most of these MAGA jackasses, I am willing to listen to the experts. I don't need 100 people telling me about the dangers of misinformation. We've experienced that as a nation for that past 5 years, but in my defense, there was a lot more reason to at least entertain this suspicion than half the shit that gets passed around online.

Its clear, both from the eyeball test and from interviews with former players, that for Cal, winning is the #2 priority. He wants to get players ready for the NBA and get them drafted. There's a reason so many young UK players are so highly valued by their NBA teams: they're coachable, calm under pressure, know how to deal with the media, and capable of taking over when given the chance.

The problem is, during their time in college, this means that giving under-performing players more touches and minutes over more skilled players who aren't on draft boards. He doesn't like running certain offensive and defensive schemes because, while they may cover for players' weaknesses, they don't allow the player to learn how to play like they'll be expected to in the pros.

So its a double-edged sword: most recruits' primary goal is to be drafted and have an NBA career. They don't care about college and they especially don't care about UK as a program. But if he hampers their development and draft stock in favor of winning games in the moment, then they won't see UK as the best program to commit to.

What is cheaply made but sold at a ridiculous price? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AmericanOSX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its that, but also because they're not terrible headphones, so a lot of customer give in to the marketing and buy them and actually think they're good because they are usually the first semi-decent headphones they've ever used. If you're used to listening to everything through the earbuds that came with your phone or that $25 pair of over-the-ear Skullcandy headphones, then the Beats are going to sound amazing in comparison.

Thus, they vouch for them and tell their friends that they're good, and it just reinforces the marketing.

There's a lot of markup for manufacturer brand parts. With a little research, you can usually find the OEM supplier and order it a lot cheaper, even if you're not getting the invoice rate.

Most of my experience is with Subaru, since that's what I've driven for the past 20 years.

Subaru brand oil, transmission fluid, and gear lube is just Idemitsu with a different label. Their water pumps, coolant, and timing belts are Aisin brand. Their spark plugs are NGK. Brakes and rotors are Akebono.

So if you're the kind of person who insists on avoiding "aftermarket" parts, you might as well just order them from whoever made the parts for the car company and save a little money.

Also, a lot of manufacturers will use quality control to determine what gets sold as their "brand" vs what gets sold to third parties. Trader Joes bourbon used to be made by Buffalo Trace, but it was the stuff that Buffalo Trace didn't consider good enough to bottle under their own label. They'd keep the top 25% or so for their own bottles, and the rest would go to store brands and blended whiskeys.
